yeah, William Hand contained the Embodiment of Death and once he committed suicide it unlocked the Entity of Death.
As the Black Lanterns were ridding the world of light, the entity would NOT be a being of light, but rather, would have no corporeal form of its own.
Much Like Ion, Parallax, The Predator etc. Black Hand was the Name of the Entity of Death, it just so happens that it was also William Hand's super villian name.
