Description Krakatoa seems a little confused by something... I don't know what...
One possibility could be not knowing with certainty what he actually is.
It's accepted by many, including Hydrex and Pearl his masters, that he's a young Kraken of some sort - young, because he's very much smaller than most Krakens previously heard of (notably, Davy Jones' Kraken was a great deal larger)

It also seems possible that he may be a form of giant squid - but not of the usual known species of today. Recently, while we were watching a few of our Christian-based Creationist videos (discussing evidence for Creation vs Evolution), I learned of a form of extinct squid known as the Nautiloid.
Now this was some old cephalopod-creature with a shell - sort of armadillos of the sea, if you like - believed to have existed either millions of years ago (according to the Evolution model)... or only thousands of years (if you believe in Creation).
Anyway, many well-preserved fossils of such creatures are found scattered indiscriminately in the sediments of the Grand Canyon (and other places too, I'm sure) ... the random locations of the fossils and Canyon itself are considered by Creationists to be monument to the Biblical Flood of Noah.

But to return to the point of Krakatoa, this discovery perhaps makes him wonder if the Kraken-species he is part of may be more Nautiloid than just plain squid due to the unusual articulated spiny shell that he possesses.

LOL! love his expression and/or pose!

Hmm, very interesting info, too, maybe he's a hybrid or somat! O.O

"the random locations of the fossils and Canyon itself are considered by Creationists to be monument to the Biblical Flood of Noah." - well, fits the facts, i'll give them that ^^ that's how i work out stuffs such as my own thesies and the like, anywho

Could be that the krakens were/are some rare variety of nautiloid, believed to have died out hundreds of years ago, only surviving in Scandinavian legend...

Yeah, the Creationist standpoint certainly fits best for me. Though I may not understand all the technicals, I understand enough to realise that Evolution is more often refuted than supported by evidence!
For example, those carbon-dating methods of theirs were often found to be inaccurate - stating that even fresh seal carcases are thousands of years old and such. They can never be sure if the radio-carbon wotsits they measure have decayed at a constant rate, or whether there was as much carbon as expected to begin with.

Well, sorry to say it but i've never really looked into it, and we had to study evolution in biology at school, so if i'm with either of them it's evolution, sorry Well, not really, but -as my dad once pointed out not too long ago - we must be missing something coz evolution seems to happen too perfectly for it ALL to be to do with chance and natural selection, and i must admit that at quite a few times i can't help but to feel like evolution on the whole is being guided by something in some way O.o;
Ah, now that Physics, which i also studied to A-Level, and because the rate of decay always happens exponentially, we can pretty much measure each radioactive element and compound's decay rate on say a graph, and that gives us exactly how old things are (to an accuracy of i think give or take 1.25% approx) based on fissle isotopes in them, and corpses always have carbon-14 in them, and all corpses had around the same amount as each other at the time of death, as you constantly take in more by eating anything organic while you're alive, and thus keep your levels of carbon-14 pretty much the same all theway through your life till you die. Individual differences can be accounted for by the size of the corpse..and the fact that it's still going to be the same percentage-wise regardless of lifeform/corpse size.
...sorry to bombard you with science there! XD

Ah well, whatever you believe, there certainly has to be intelligent design in there somewhere, as you say!
Guess I was fortunate in being taught Creation and Christianity at home, as well as aspects of Evolution in school - so being able to take it all on board and choose what I want to believe.

One thing I'd heard about carbon-14 was that some organisms resist the intake...?
Not something I really studied in detail, though. My leagues are more British wildlife, art and animation!

Yeah, i think so Indeed; you have all the points of view and their varying facts, including that you know what they both agree on, so you're certainly in the best possition knowledge-wise...i'm almost jealous!

Hmm, not sure O.o you could be right, though: we learned about it in physics, and something like that would be something one would learn in biology, but my biology sylabus never covered anythnig to do with Carbon-14 :\ XD
Believe me, you almost certainly saved yourself a good deal of headaches taking those instead, especially as far as A-Level Maths is concerned! O.O;

My maths was up to GCSE standard, but what we learned in a maths-section of that BTEC Nat Dip ICT course in college seemed to be just maths for maths sake - find the second angle of a line through a triangle or some such crap...
The only other useful thing I learned was how to work out Binary and Hexadecimal numerals.

Hmm, apart from learning how to use Flash and Adobe Photoshop on my BA Digital Media course in Uni, it seems that my knowledge in art and animation is largely self-taught. And wildlife is just a personal interest - like looking into English words, seeing how a lot of it derives from the old Latin and Greek. (e.g. Amiable could relate to the Latin "amicus" - friend... probably where the Spanish get "amigo")
And recently... trying to memorise the Elvish script - and who knows, it seems to me that it could be used as a sort of shorthand for taking down dictation!

Well, i tried taking maths to A-Level (or A/S, at least) but for some reason my school decided (and is still like this! O.O) that Applied maths isn't needed and so the entire 2 year course was algebra! O.O; Algebra above intermediate GCSE-level being my one major weak point in maths, though i did start getting the hang of Stats near the end of the term of A/S i did, but over 60% was "Pure Maths", which i could never even begin to get my head around any one aspect of! O.o so i had to drop it after the first modular exam, LOL! but at least in doing so i had enough time to focus on my Biology and Physics A-Levels and as a result did OK-to-good in them =' ^^ '=

Damn - i couldn't get into uni :\ but hopefully the RAF will take me in and i can work while also studying for a degree in Biomedical Science with them ^^ then Cardiff Uni will pretty much HAVE to accept me for a Genetics degree if i have a BSc in Biomedical Science already! and i'll have plenty of money by then, too, and hopefully a solid career to go for
Wow, you must be pretty good at languages, then!?! =' O.O '=

I gues algerbra has it's uses... occasionally...
At least learning about areas was handy - like when I measured all my furniture, and the dimensions of my new bedroom when we moved house. Taking some graph-paper, I was able to personally lay out my own furniture in a way that left plenty of room in a small space - wardrobe against the (boarded up) fireplace; bed in alcove, by the window; boxes of random stuff at the foot of bed; bookshelves and chest of drawers along the walls... pretty compact, really!

Heh, well good luck in puruing that career!
I don't know about languages, really... anything I pick up is more like the odd word or phrase, but not anything fluent. Those bits of Elvish writing I've been doing lately are just written in phonetic-English (as the words sound, rather than true spelling) - and what makes many of the words appear shorter is the fact that vowels are represented by "tehtar" (those little accent-symbols placed over the following consonants) and some common consonant-blends such as "th" and "sh" have their own special "tengwar" (letter characters).

Scurge-lonely-Dragon In reply to DCLeadboot [2010-05-14 09:37:40 +0000 UTC]

Yup, that sounds pretty good. GCSE algebra really is useful, but try an find a time in practical, everyday life where Quadratic Equations could help you in ANY way, shape, or form, LOL! O.o; I always have a raised bed: as a child i slept on the top bunk waaaay back when David and i shared a room and thus had a bunk-bed, and these days i sleep in a raised bed which is good coz you can fit soooo much stuff under it (useful as my current room has little floor space! XD) and the only thing i can't do that i could if my bed were normal hieght is stand on it (and even then i'm tall enough that doing so would be difficult on a normal bed, anyway! )

Ya, i'll need all the luck i can get: yesterday afternoon got a letter from the RAF saying that i've been unsucessful, but - although i thought it went well - i must've done something wrong in the interview, as if it were for a medical reason (such as my eczma, colour-blindness, etc.) they wouldn't invite me to re-apply in 12 months. So for the meanwhile i've got a 'Debreif Interview' on monday for interview feedback to see what i did wrong, and i'm gonna see if i can work for Peacocks warehouse properly, instead of working for them through Meridian employment agency on a probably-temp contact like i am now...

Ah, kinda like me with snippets of Japanese and German, then! Well, i'm not quite sure what all that means, sorry, but i'll take your word for it

Heh, quadratics and stuff...
And there was Clegg from "Last of the Summer Wine" remarking on how nature never intended us to fit in tight spaces - the fact that feet aren't turned the other way round, so that we can stand closer to walls. And yet the rectangle is all we have in the building plans - so maybe our future descendants will be digging up the remains of our buildings and thinking we were composed of right-angles!

I figured it would be a great name for him - Krakatoa Kraken... hinting at a dormant creature with a potential for causing massive destruction if someone causes him to "erupt" into a furious temper!

(Actually, it's also said in legend that a kraken could potentially grow to the size of a small island - of course, my kraken is miles from that kind of mistaken identity... he's only 50-foot long, relatively young and dwarfed by the Kraken of Davy Jones in PotC - according to Pirates Wikia, that particular leviathan was estimated to be 1400-foot long!)

Well, certainly not on any other kraken - but at least Krakatoa is friendly!
In terms of making, though - it was just an idea... all I'd researched at the time was the appearance of a squid, only taking artistic license - like adding the spiky body-armour and making the big expressive eyes more prominent.
