Reminds me of this embarrassing moment when I was a kid where I was at a pool during the summer for some camp lessons, surrounded by toddlers. I was all like "I don't need to be here. I can swim! Watch me!" And then I jumped into the pool and just sunk.
That had never happened to me before or after. It had to happen then though and I got yanked out by the teacher who rolled her eyes at me. God, it was so embarrassing. Fuck that place wherever it was. It's the only memory I have of it. I must have been a toddler too probably.

My uncle use to throw me into the pool around age 6 or 7 knowing I couldn't swim. One time he left me in the pool and didn't help me out like he had beforehand. I barely survived and was taken to the hospital. He wasn't charged because he feigned ignorence and said I jumped in on my own. Needless to say most of my family doesn't associate with him anymore. To this day I still cannot swim because it tramatized me and as soon as water goes above my chest I go into full panic mode. Which is embarrassing as hell.

This is why most swimming pools don't allow water wings anymore and instead go with lifejackets. I was just like this when I was a kid and when the lifeguard found out I couldn't swim he made me wear one. At the same time the kid who pushed me in got stuck with one too. His mother thought it was only fitting we both got a little embarressed.

Oh no. Welp. I was trying to figure out which way the mood was going to turn, but I guess we know now. At best it'll be with Max traumatized and scared to go back to the pool anytime soon, and at worst it'll be like the 2014 concussion arc where he ends up in the hospital.

Something I realized as I grew up is that few bullies actually want to cause serious harm to their victims. Even if it's only because they're likely to get in a ton of trouble if their victim needs serious medical attention, most bullies I've met seem to have the same reaction as Stubs when they realize their victim is in actual trouble, and some may actually start to show concern.
It never seems like that at the time, though.
