This makes me realize how suicidal are Max's thoughts and makes me want to know more of his mind and Sam's (as both seem to be playing a game of protection, trying to protect one another, but also suffering for it). Amazing style, as always, and great story

Jaded views bring jaded responses I'm afraid. Though to be completely fair i was in the same position as Max as a kid regarding pools, being pushed in and nearly drowning. Except the bullies who pushed me in didn't try to save me. No they ran instead trying to avoid getting into trouble. Another kid pulled me out instead. She ended up being one of my best friends. But the point is. If I can keep a calm head about this then they have no excuse.

Aha, part of me wondered if Stubs was going to be the one to rescue Max, after having almost killed him. I have a sneaking suspicion that Max's shirt having ridden up to expose his scar, which is visible in panel 2, was not merely an artistic choice on Dcrisisbeta's part... Will we ever find out the details of how he got it, beyond that he tripped and fell during a fire?

Stubs helped save him. You can see him behind Max in the first panel pushing him out. While the other kid helps pull him out. That's why he's soaked in panel 3

To play devil's advocate...stubs does have a point. Not only unable to swim, but also unsupervised and without a flotation device.
Yea, stubs pushing Max in was a jerk-ish move, but not all that uncommon when it came to pools and kids. I remember being a kid at the pool...there were "no running" signs everywhere, but kids would still run around and accidentally bump into others. I did see the occasional person get pushed in (usually playfully by other kids) or just bumped into and knocked into the pool. Granted, the one who did it then had the whistle blown on them by a lifeguard and was put in a "time out" for a good length of time for pushing another kid in.
It was definitely a jerk thing for stubs to do that, but also just something kids at pools did to each other when the lifeguards aren't looking (and thus the reason I never sat anywhere near the edge of the pool as a kid).

I think you mean they both did. Stubs is wet now if you didn't notice, and the first panel shows he's clearly the one helping Max up while the other one pulls him out. He might be a bully but he wouldn't let Max just die, mostly because he knows that if he did he'd get in ten times the trouble he's probably going to be at.
I'm not defending his actions, just saying that bullies aren't monsters out to kill people just because they don't like them. He saw the kid he likes to tease just sitting next to a pool, he decided to push him in just to have a laugh at his expense, simple, that's how most bullies are.
And don't blame neither Sam or her mom for this, kids move a lot all the time, especially in places like a water park, not to mention water parks get really crowded, especially in summer, and Max is very small, as shown before, he gets lost very easily.
And one last thing, Stubs thought that Max knew how to swim as he was literally just sitting on the edge of the deep pool, of course he's upset that Max was sitting there because he could've killed him and gotten in trouble over it, in Stubs' mindset, if he had been sitting next to a kid pool his prank would've been just fine and he would've just laughed it off, but instead Max sat next to a deep pool knowing he couldn't swim and almost drowned because of what started as just a kiddy prank.

I understand. I'm not blaming Sam or their mom either. I was just angry that he would pull this type of prank and then rebuke Max for being over here. It's hypocritical to me.
