Obviously, Aqua is my favorite girl in Kingdom Hearts! You can blame BBS for that, lol. It was Kairi -- and while I still very much like Kairi, Aqua has recently pulled into the lead. Plus she has the most fun story in Birth By Sleep, if you ask me.

SPOILERS!!!
Her story is nearly heartbreaking: she lost her home, her family, and in the end...she even lost her two best friends. Even when she tried to save one of them, she realized she couldn't save herself and him, so she sacrificed herself so he could make it out of the realm of darkness -- which ultimately caused her to be stranded there. Then she had to fight her way through until she finally reached the Dark Margin -- all the while, having to bear personal witness to the worlds she had visited being devoured by the darkness.

She's been taunted by illusions of her two best friends, Terra and Ven, since and, upon sacrificing herself to save Riku in Kingdom Hearts...caused herself to be cast further into darkness! Yes! She was ACTUALLY there, in Kingdom Hearts, at the end of the first game -- but she sacrificed herself to save Riku just before he helps Sora close the door. That's why we don't see her. She is completely selfless; everything she does is for the people she loves, regardless of what it might do to her in the end.

All she wants is to be reunited with her best friends. She lost pretty much everything, but she still hasn't given up hope. She's the perfect example of how to be bad-ass and still manage to care about everyone around you. And, if KHIII lore is true -- she may finally find her way out of the Realm of Darkness! I hope that's true! It's been 11 years... (though no time has passed for her, with the Realm of Darkness being void of time)
