Alright, guys,... Here it is... and I'm officially insane that I did this... OTL OTL OTL
This must be the most giant tutorial I ever wrote
My back hurts, my neck hurts, my fingers hurt but HELL YES I'M HAPPY AND SATISFIED! I kinda butchered Elliot's and Skye's design but... come on they are chibis!!
When I saw Elliot's design the very first time I was thinking right away 'They look as if they could be constantly fighting...' lol I don't know why, but making my charas fight each other all the time is a prove of my love for them xD POOR THEM!!!!
Ehem... LOL!!!!
Hope you enjoy~~~

Wow--this is very informative and I'm definitely going to apply the techniques you describe here! What I really like though, is your reminder to enjoy your work. Yes, it won't be perfect, but if you keep trying you'll get there. I have that problem sometimes (the problems of being a perfectionist) but this gives me greater hope. This is so great and motivational--thank you!

I loved the small message at the end since I am usually faced with self-doubt and dislike for my own work, thinking why it's not as I want it to be straight-away. Anyway, it was a lovely message. Thanks for sharing the tips also.

this was so helpful thank you very much^^!!! Do you ever ink the illistration with photoshop? Would you happen to know a good photoshop tool to use for inking? right now I can't get the lines any neater than the 'rough sketch' stage

Well, using the usual hard pen is good... 100%flow and opacity and making it hard... Giving it a slightly oval shape adds a nice effect sometimes too!

ok, so do you use long strokes? I tend to make lines with short choppy strokes. maybe that has something to do with it

I try doing long strokes, but if it gets too long, I divide them into 2 or 3....

I love your tutorials... they are so easy to understand and usually answer a lot of my stupid questions like: why can't I get lace to look like lace and why the F*** does all my clothing look like someone is wearing a bag.

I can't write a critique because I'm not subscribed, but I really need to have a poke at step two. A good design does not rely solely on colour to make it fit together: the details and base have to make sense too!
I would recommend starting with a theme, or picking details that fit together before starting to draw them on. This counts double if the design is for an actual character: What is their taste, what circumstances do they live in, what can the clothes do to show who they are?
There's nothing wrong with a little randomness, but the most iconic designs are the ones that make sense. If you look at the most famous fashion designers, you are more likely to see concepts (couture) or simplicity that makes the wearer look good (ready-to-wear) than randomness. The most iconic character designs look uncomplicated at first glance and have details that fit them... I think Miku Hatsune is a good example of this: the base of her design is symmetric, the dark gray is spread equally and her (rather unique) hair 'frames' her body, making a well-considered and eye-catching design that immediately sticks with you before you even notice the details.
I hope that didn't come across as flaming or anything. When it comes to technique and colour this is a fine tutorial, I just really wanted to critique that point (:

Good stuff, even tho I don't do that particular style of drawing, I still found parts of it very very useful. I'm a firm believer in studying all styles of art, and stealing the parts you like best
Appreciate the time and energy you put into making this tutorial.
Cheers
