I ride my pony bareback and I just decided to try out western in the english saddle (xD it worked! My trainer said I sat fluently!). I used the command whoa (at a trot) and he stopped.... That was the first time I said whoa! He never knew the command! O_o The 2nd time he didn't do it though! xD

It's a good article. ^^ Bareback is a good way to test if you are actually using your body to steer your horse like you are supposed to, and a lot of people don't realise its all in the body and leg, not rein.

I am loving this already! I'll only be able to use this in writing, sadly, because I don't own a horse. I do believe my friend taught me how to turn a horse bareback last time I was up on a horse.
Mind you, that was just a wheezy old gelding in the paddock. But still, it's very useful information.
I cannot think of anything at the current moment for a future topic but when I do, I will be sure to suggest it.

Ack, my only problem is location. It all comes down to that.
One day, I will move to a more rural place. I WILL! In the meantime, HARPG and watching the races whenever I can shall be my only way of easing the need to be around horses.

Well, I've always been a city kid. I can count how many times I've been around and ridden horses on one hand. It's the norm for me, I suppose.
But I do long to be able to ride, photograph, and just be around a horse. To gaze into those deep, dark eyes and see their spirit, to bond with a horse...I long for it.
