Description Couta Rocks
Tasmania

On the North west cost of Tasmania, the coast faces the roaring forties of the southern ocean to the west and the dunes of the Tarkine coast inland. The rugged land came to life on this particular evening when a blue sky day met with fast moving cloud. One of the most striking sunsets I've seen.

This is quite a beautiful capture. The detail in the rock formations amidst the wispy movement in the water is fantastic. Not to mention the multitude of colors that blend wonderfully throughout the image. Would you mind sharing what post processing steps you've taken in CS5? I truly aspire to produce a result of this caliber. Well done

Thanks After a bit of colour work , I bring duplicate the background 5 times (sometimes 6) for different effects, each with layer masks
1. Luminosity blend mode 15-20% : gaussian blur of radius 20 applied (for a softening effect and glow)
2. High pass layer radius 1.2, overlay mode: sharpening where sharpening is required
3. Soft light layer (Saturation -30): for contrast and to bring out shadows and detail
4. Screen layer (lightening) : for lightening up areas (kind of like dodging)
5. Multiply layer (Darkening): adds contrast as well as a kind of burning effect
6. Overlay layer : for areas I think need additional contrast and detail enhancement

hope that's helpful to you

I initially missed the part about adding the layer masks and was a bit confused. However, it makes perfect sense based on your explanation and I can actually see in the image where you've applied different effects. Again, well done and I'm going to try this methodology out. Thanks for taking the time to explain your process
