Description
Eilean Donan CastleScotland
This is surely one of the most iconic places to photograph in Scotland. My approach to photographing these places is to take that iconic shot (usually because its claim to fame is well established and pleasing the eye) - but then to try taking angles that I haven't seen before. Marianne and I wondered out to the rocks on the other side of the castle to take a few images from this angle. We were lucky in that the tide was low and the water glassy still for a while. As we always predict, our presence at an unusual spot drew some other people out to this spot. It was quite a slippery rock surface and an old gentleman slipped with a very heavy thud - he seemed to have escaped without major injury thankfully.

Love the angle of the shot. The reflection is amazing considering the light.

It's interesting. I went there two years in a row, and the water level was so massively different. The first time I went the water was really high. All the rocks and things in your photo there were under water. The second time, the water level was considerably lower. So much so we could walk under the bridge to the castle easily. Lovely photo though, it's a beautiful place.

I can imagine from the variety of photos I've seen of this place that it is quite tide dependent

Anyone who has only seen this beautiful photo will then be disappointed by the original during a trip to Scotland

When we do photography it's always a reminder that "it's been taken before" etc, but in a way it's still a good thing. If we wouldn't take the "obvious" objects they'd go missing in the future. I don't mind common places, it's usually the mood and feel to the shot that keeps me watching anyways.
I'm excited over visiting france next year, then I'll knock all the "obvious" shots with a mad twist!
Nice shot mate, good feelin'!
