Karis was born Theodora Etoile Marie Beaumont and she was one of Jodi's friends back in high school. Theodora was a 4th generation born Italian girl with strict Southern Liberal beliefs in a strictly Southern Conservative Italian family. In high school, she was friends with the elite kids (aka the nerds) of Jodi's old high school and she was a drama geek, but Jodi liked her company for the most part. After high school, she went on to become a big set designer in Broadway and moved to Manhattan and married her high school sweetheart, Carlton Johnson (one of the elitists at the school). Their marriage produced two daughters: Carlie Ann and Tia Marie (who's the same age as Joanna). Well, eventually their marriage starts to fall apart but she stays with him even though he's always going to business trips...or so he says...

Eventually, he is absent so much that Carlie starts to hate her father and only Tia tries to have a relationship with him. Soon enough, Theodora has enough and she finally calls Jodi for help. Meanwhile, Jodi was already laughing at two unfortunate girls she used to know who both got divorces recently but she doesn't bother to read about what happened to Theodora but nosy Joanni and Joanna decided to watch the video but Joanni wasn't very shocked that they broke up. Jodi finds out that they messed with her email though and gets upset until Shanti tells her that she invited Theodora to go with them on their vacation. But you're probably wondering how she turned black...

Long story short, Carlton wasn't actually going on business trips...he was actually faking trips to Seattle to continue his affair with Theodora's best friend, Ebony Stevens. The two showed interest in each other back in high school but Carlton married Theodora to appease his racist parents. But Ebony wanted to do away with Theodora so she laced her lotion, body wash, and perfume with poison which Joanni and Joanna soon figure out after Theodora faints at a luau they attended. Luckily, the doctors were able to save her and they learn that Ebony is really Kailia Rodgers, the daughter of two island witch doctors and the sister of Theodora's new love interest, Lamar Rodgers (a hunky tall, dark, and handsome man that resembles Shamar Moore).

You see, Kailia was cursed by a witch that lived by the lake on the island she was born on and when she fell into the lake, her cocoa skin turned grey, her brown eyes turned red, and her frizzy, curly black hair turned white and straight. But to break her curse, she had to make a young man fall in love with her and kill someone with low self-esteem so she came across Theodora and disguised herself as Ebony in order to kill her in the future and make Carlton fall in love with her to break her curse. But Joanni ruins her plan and with the help of the Witch of the Lake, Vira, they exact their revenge on Theodora and Vira lures her to the lake and makes her wish that she was a beautiful island girl so that Lamar's parents would except her so Vira pushes her into the lake and that's when she turns into what's above. She happily returns to Lamar and the two marry a month later only for Kailia and Vira to crash the wedding and Vira curses Theodora to look the way Kailia looked and Kailia goes after Joanni for ruining her plan. But soon enough, Michelle steps in and breaks Theodora's curse but not before dealing with Kailia and Vira. After that chaos, they actually do marry and Theodora now goes by Karis and lives happily ever after with Lamar and their son, Malik...but she still keeps in touch with her two daughters. (As for Carlton and Kailia, Michelle allowed Kailia to return to Seattle and she broke her curse so she could be with Carlton and they married) Well, enjoy!
