Description
This is a cartoon I drew last week concerning President Obama's proposed Fed budget for 2011, which cuts money and services for the middle class and the poor while preserving tax cuts for the wealthy and the ever-increasing "defense" budget. I thought I could illustrate the relationship between class strata with an inverted pyramid design, which focuses all the weight of the system on the poor much like Mack from Yertle the Turtle, while also showing the middle class supporting the military system which ought to be supporting them instead.

The guy shaking hands with Obama along the center vertical axis of the design is Speaker of the House John Boehner, although at this scale he may be difficult to recognize. I need to work more on my caricature of him.

I spent several hours coloring the cartoon, but color made the labels too hard to read, and I decided it looked better in black and white, too.
