Description
OK....this one has a bit of a story to it.Those of you who have watched Star Trek know that the Borg use people as their drones--people who had no choice in the matter, and people who fought ending up this way as hard as they could, only to fail.
These are two characters in a Trek fanfic I may or may not start posting up in Fanfiction...the woman is, or as this picture seems to show, was Borgphobic. The obviously disconnected drone had ended up fighting the Borg tooth and nail. Ended up taking out like 20 drones before one of his bombs blew up on him, and the Collective thought it'd gotten a free tactical drone in the deal. He'd expected to be dead, but woke up a Borg instead. So as you can see when he DOES get disconnected, he isn't gonna be too happy about being turned into a walking bio-mechanical tank of sorts....
I'd had reservations about even posting this to dA, but when ~cmdrgabee said she loved Resistance is Futile, I thought again. Her lineart in her own fan works is amazing, so I figured she must know something about what makes good fanart.
So, I've seen Star Trek: First Contact recently, and it's helped me in figuring out how to detail a Borg. Believe me, it's not as easy as it looks.
Painted in Adobe Photoshop 7.0 with digital tablet and pen. Probably took like 8 hours-2 or 3 increments of shorter time periods to get it done.
Star Trek and the Borg are copyrighted Paramount Studios. I'm just...borrowing them.

This is an extremely touching piece, I Have an STO Character who used to be a Borg Drone, It's with him... It's with him like scar tissue from a heart attack. He even goes full Ahab Like Picard Did in Star Trek First Contact.

I think that's more common with the formerly assimilated than people may think. It's been a few years since I even visited these characters, but the concept still remains. I mean for all the not-quite-there writing of Voyager, there's a definite sense of psychological trauma with Seven of Nine, for all her loyalty to Borg thinking at first.
Thank you for your comment.

This one touches me.
You can feel the pain and despair rolling off him.
Very good work.

Thank you.
I was going for the same emotional punch as when Picard fell apart in \"Family\" and talked about what the Borg did to him, emotionally. That was such powerful stuff, to see a man usually so composed and put-together, coming apart. I\'m glad to hear that worked. Thank you again.

Thanks! Glad you liked it so much.
(I think I like it for how clearly I conveyed the emotional punch of this one...I guess the sight of this tough guy, Picard, breaking down because the Borg used him got to me.)

Thank you. :bows: Yeah it took a while because I wasn't as proficient at digital painting back then as I am now, but every once in a while even a newb does something above their usual caliber. It's one of my favorites so far.

I like how you put so much emotion into this image to portray the story of a human life perverted via borg technology. Nice job on all the details.
Yes, before the matrix, green meant borg.

Thank you. I really was interested by the emotional angst caused by someone who's been forced to do all these things they wouldn't, by a Collective they sure as hell didn't want to join. Seemed interesting, considering the Borg are capable of so much.

That was one of the strengths of Voyager. They went a lot into the Borg, especially when they found that colony that had broken away, and of course, having 7 of 9 was a weekly experience. The show needed some work, but I give a lot of credit to the writers for what they did with the Borg.

Yeah, they did do some good stuff. But my GOD, I think some of their later Borg episodes could've used the polish the earlier ones had. 7 of 9 was cool--I liked her. I just think they overfocused on her sometimes.
That broken-off Borg colony should've come back for a repeat IMHO. I would've liked to have seen what a bunch of ex-Borg, who know how deadly the Collective is, decided to change about their little groupmind. You know, to make it something other than Borg, and yet it is Borg. And apparently Chakotay had some unfinished business with them...something I couldn't blame him for.

Now that would make a killer story. Unfortunately Enterprise won't deal with the Borg.
7 of 9 gets as much attention as Tapau.

After that one Borg episode, I'd say it's only fair for them to stay out of Borg matters.
And yeah, T'Pol and 7 of 9 acted like clones at first...T'Pol seems to have her own identity now, but damn...when those shows started, I swore T'Pol had to have been an ex-Borg....

Yeah it is a little twisted in some ways.
But I'm surprised you pulled "heartwarming" out of it.
Not bad, considering the moment in the story kinda would be...?

I LOVE it. And good to see the emphasis on the tears is better from the last draft I saw of it. I feel sorry for Pissy/Kreegis. You've mastered both poses perfectly.
Worth it.

A first of many, I hope. If you take this fanfic to the drafting level, I can predict much more.

DeepChrome In reply to QuinnDx [2005-01-27 11:52:58 +0000 UTC]
Yah, both this one and Resistance is Futile will probably end up becoming material for preview pics.
As you can also tell, all our old comical RPing of the fanfic was all well and good, but I'm going to put more seriousness into it than I originally anticipated. And I may trim the Flirty drone down to a few sentences rather than hassling our poor Borgphobe all the time.

QuinnDx In reply to DeepChrome [2005-01-27 11:55:49 +0000 UTC]
But Flirty is an awesome character! He can vanish though, and every now and then, we hear a stifled scream when BDSM-Drone is working him over in some remote part of the cube.
