Description
I couldn't figure out what landscape to put with this one, so I left it as just a spacescape.I'm especially proud of the gas giant.

Nice work getting the bands of clouds to look perfectly circular!

Thanks. I had a lot of fun with that.
It's a bit time consuming but it's actually very doable in Photoshop (or similar programs I'd think?) I got the idea for it off a couple of tutorials for rocky surfaces and assorted trial-and-error methods.
Here's the rundown if you're interested in trying it out for Outsider or other stuff:
-Radial gradient set to noise in a circular selection area. (50% or higher roughness) Put the centerpoint near an upper or lower part of the circular area like the planet is on a tilted axis. Modify that gradient (blur, hue/sat, whatever) to get the colors looking the way you want them.
-Paint over bands of clouds as seen on photos of Saturn, Jupiter, or Neptune. You can use as many swirlies ilke Jupiter or keep it soft and light like Saturn. Β Generally even if my color scheme is totally fantastical, I try to make the thing look fairly realistic. I used mostly Jupiter for this piece. You can even see where I referenced the Great Red Spot.
-When done...Spherize. Set to anywhere from high to maximum outward spherical value. If all the painting earlier kept the general shape of the bands on your gas giant, they'll come out nice and circular and the entire thing will look convincingly 3D. Without actually being 3D-rendered.
On a side note I've seen stuff somewhere that suggest a similar method for making gas giant textures for 3D programs - basically a rectangular area painted similarly to the above then mapped onto a sphere. -shrugs- I think the part that really works the magic here is the painting of the clouds and planetary features. Gas giants just naturally lend themselves to that sort of thing, IMHO.

Just wondering, do you take any requests? And just putting it out there, you should do more Shodan stuff with announcement of System Shock 3 and 1 remake.

At the moment, I'm hardly on DA except to occasionally clean out my inbox. So no, sorry. I'm not taking requests.
