Description
Link's Equipment: WeaponsAs a young adventurer, Link is no stranger to defending himself, using a variety of weaponry to do so.
Bow and Arrows: Link uses a standard shortbow of Hyrulian make, for defensive purposes and to hunt for food.
Shield: Shields come in a wide variety of materials, shapes and sizes. Link's go-to is a wooden shield covered in stretched hide, allowing for defense against most projectiles, whether be it rocks, arrows and javelins. However, It is not recommended or fit for defense against heavier or magic weaponry such as broadswords, acid or ethereal fire.
Magic Wand: Link acquires a magic wand from one of Ganon's fallen sorcerers, allowing him to cast magic projectiles. The wand itself is fashioned from trees found near the graveyards at the base of Death Mountain, and it houses a singular magic rune inside.
Bombs: Many of Ganon's ground-forces carry bombs and grenades, usually made from either cast-iron or ceramic acorn-shaped containers. The fuse leads to a reserve of explosive powder found in the bomb's reservoir, and to make matters deadlier, some of them contain sharp Caltrops. Link can also purchase these from many of Hyrule's underground merchants.
Boomerang: Boomerangs are rarely found in Hyrule, though one thing is for certain; if one is happened to be seen, it is of the Goriya. Expertly crafted, the Goriya's boomerangs are usually made from either wood or silver metals, with tightly-bound leather gripping handles.
Sword: After Link was given his mission by Princess Zelda's nursemaid Impa, he was instructed to meet with an old acquaintance of hers; a nameless, elderly vagabond found in the countryside's emerald hills. Upon Link's arrival, the old man bestowed on to him a surprisingly versatile and sharp wooden training sword. The old man explained to Link that if he were to prove himself worthy, he could return and would be granted the use of another weapon in his possession; an ancient magical blade once belonging to a noble warrior and beast slayer. In time, Link did.

So, how would you explain the sword beams you fire in the game for all three swords (Wooden, White, and Magical)?

Hmm.. didn't really think about that, haha. I mean, it's described as throwing them I thought, at least with the non-magical ones. The Magic sword could probably cast beams or somethin'.

Those bombs are, well...the bomb! If medieval Nordic folk used insect repellent tiki torches to keep mosquitoes away, I imagine that is what they would look like 8-D.
The bit of bent metal on the business end of on the boomerang is a minor yet welcome touch. Artists don't always portray wear-and-tear on weapons, after all. However...if the edge is hitting a target dead on, would not the bend be going the other way due to repeated impacts on the "correct" side?
Now, I am mildly curious about the shield. Did you consider the version with the cross of Christianity emblazoned upon it?

Thanks man, had fun with the bombs especially!
I think the boomerang's bent end is something I may have seen on a weaponized boomerang, but I can totally see it being done due to wear and tear like you said! I think this was the image that inspired its design actually:

As far as the shield goes, it wasn't out of affiliation or un-affiliation with Christianity, but rather I just wanted something a bit less simple for lack of a better word. I did consider using the cross-embellished shield at first, but I've seen so many shields with crosses on them, and I felt it was a little out of place in the Zelda universe, so I thought to give it a more medieval crest-like feel.

Oh, okay. So there WAS a method to the boomerang's madness!
--- --- ---
To be fair, quite a few elements of the earlier Zelda games seem out-of-place when they are compared to later installments...but I argue that they make them all the more unique and, in some ways, down to earth if you consider how convoluted the canon regarding the world of Hyrule became starting with "Ocarina of Time".
Minor disagreement, though. The design you followed through on is still artistically sound.

Yeah, I'll definitely agree that Zelda has a unique style that's all its own, even if it's very influenced by genre-defining fantasy tropes!

I the your visual style and just the extended amount of mythos you've been adding to the lore. Keep it up!

It's always fantastic to see Link's arsenal. Heck, all the weapons and tools he get and how he uses them is part of the charm of the series IMO

Definitely! I miss manual artwork that would detail things like the weapons and items, and thought it'd be a fun break after drawing so many monsters!

Yeah I can imagine weaponry and equipment would make for a very interesting change from humans and creatures. Makes me wish actually that more games would let you zoom in on weapons and armor to see all the details in them

You could draw how Link carries all this items, I remember a artist that made Link carrying in a giant bag... I don't remember who was the artist, but I would like to see how you imagine it

I do have my Link design ready with a big rucksack on his back, so I'm sure a lot of it will be going into that! My next piece will be concerning his items actually!
I've always liked that piece, so I'm sure I'll have to do my rendition of it sometime.

Will we see your version of the white and magic swords?
Those bombs are great btw!

I think the one in the piece is probably the white sword. When I draw the old man, I'm sure I'll put the wooden sword in there somewhere, and in Link's own piece, I'll probably give him the magic one!
Thanks! Had fun with those!

Thanks a ton! Yeah, something like old instructions for the bombs or just patterning, saw some on ancient ceramic bombs and thought it looked pretty sweet!
