Description "The Underworld is an underground maze of dangerous labyrinths. Link will find many more enemies living inside the labyrinths than he does in the Overworld. The fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom that Link is after are hidden somewhere inside these labyrinths."

-The Legend of Zelda Manual

When princess Zelda sent the eight Triforce fragments out into the stretches of the vast Overworld, they were trusted by 8 of Hyrule's most formidable soldiers on horseback to separate and protected locations. Ganon's forces expected this maneuver and intercepted the soldiers, killing them and taking the Triforce Fragments to eight locations of their own choosing. Though Hyrule's Overworld is known for its forests, lakes and mountains, it's also known for its labyrinthine network of crypts, dungeons and tombs.

It is believed that long ago there were six demonic gods that resided over Hyrule's primordial lands, each with their own early groups of followers and cult-like worshippers. Across Hyrule, there are a myriad of crypt-like shrines, each said to have been dedicated to these gods, which had become their homes, who have resided there since, forever in slumber. Gods that had been long thought to be merely mythical figures and part of some long-lost culture.

With his knowledge of the occult, influenced by the Triforce of Power, the evil sorcerer Ganon was able to call on these ancient deities to protect the fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom, until the third and unknown Triforce was found. Six of these fragments were hidden in these demonic shrines and temples, while the remaining two were stowed away in the most secretive and illusive tombs in Hyrule. Ganon was to keep Zelda prisoner in his own underworld fortress, known to reside somewhere in Death mountain.

Though the formidable ancient demons would be enough to stop any warrior from gaining access to the Triforce fragments, Ganon opted to employ other demonic entities, monsters and mercenaries to secure each fragment with excessive force, the tombs to be used as fortresses and outposts. While these tombs and shrines are known to be crawling with beasts and other nasty critters, they were once popular spots for Hyrule's treasure-seekers and grave-robbers, rumored to contain numerous treasures, objects, maps, instruments and even mystical weapons, presumed to have been placed there as tribute and sacrifices when the old demons lived. All looting activity has stopped however, now that the malicious deities that were rumored to reside there have been awakened.

A good ideia that i have to the Underworld that is hidden temples dedicated to the 7 Sages of Ocarina of Time ( Since Ocarina of Time is before the Zelda 1) and the 8th is a special temple dedicated to the godness Hylia and the 9th is where Ganon live, and Zelda before being captured sent the Triforce to these temples and the bosses are actually the spirits of the sages impersonating themselves as monsters to protect the Triforce (the reason for there being monsters and servants of Ganon there is because they were sent by him to take the Triforce but they failed and the Temple have a Barrier preventing Ganon from taking the Triforce then he can not do this for himself ), So, what do you think?

I definitely like the idea of incorporating some vague Ocarina of Time references in there, though with the first game taking place much later, I'd like for those details to be obscured.

I do not like some things about this description, man, WHY just WHY GANON DON'T TAKE THIS TRIFORCE AT A TIME?!!
There 's a hole in this description! :/

It'd certainly be intimidating to go in there!

Very creepy. I really dig how the tree very subtly appears to have a face. Those gnarly branches look amazing.

Thanks man, much appreciated! Definitely tried taking some cues from William Stout and Arthur Rackham for that tree!

Again, awesome!  I will have to show you some of my lore regarding the dungeons, it is the basis for the small detailing I am adding to make them unique and less sterile.

Thanks man! I've been trying to add some unique flair to the dungeons myself, now that I've started on the underworld enemies, we should pool our ideas together! For example, the Stalfos is going to be in Aquamentus' dungeon, but instead of looking more built out of tiles and whatnot, it's more cave and mine-like. Less advanced than the later dungeons, and probably older too. I have an idea that each boss/demon has their own unique set of cult-like worshippers that built their dungeons/tombs at different periods. My Aquamentus has a following of druid-like people, making sense that they built his abode underneath an old tree, and with the materials they had lying around instead of actually fabricating decorative tiles, etc.

I think I want Aquamentus and Gohma to be the oldest of the demons, and maybe Gleeok as the youngest, having the most "lavish" tomb. WIll have to figure out the others sometime soon!

Fascinating.

Here is a small excerpt for what I have regarding Dungeon 04: Snake.

Temple 4 (Snake)– Temple of Ruto of the Zora

“This once was the temple dedicated to the great sage of the Zora, Princess Ruto. In the hundreds of years that have passed since Ruto lived, this temple was erected in her memory.  With Gannon and his minions moving into the land of Southern Hyrule and leaving destruction in their wake, some of the Zora have turned on their old allies the Hylian.  With this piece of the Triforce of Wisdom recovered and the spirit of the temple reawakened you are on your way to banishing the evil of Gannon and returning the land of Hyrule to its former splendor and glory.” ~ Story bits shown after the defeat of the Gleeok.

With the dungeons from the original game, I wanted to work in some little bits to tie the game back to the previous games in the timeline.  Being that this Dungeon is located on an island in the middle of Lake Hylia, it would be a great way to work the Zora into my idea. Each of the labyrinths will have elements related to one of the Sages or Goddesses.

  • Labyrinth 01 – Temple of Zelda of the Hylian (Eagle)
  • Labyrinth 02 – Temple of Nabooru of the Gerudo (Moon)
  • Labyrinth 03 – Temple of Saria of the Kokiri (Manji)
  • Labyrinth 04 – Temple of Ruto of the Zora (Snake)
  • Labyrinth 05 – Temple of Darunia of the Gorons (Lizard)
  • Labyrinth 06 – Temple of Impa of the Sheikah (Dragon)
  • Labyrinth 07 – Temple of Din the Goddess of Power (Demon)
  • Labyrinth 08 – Temple of Farore Goddess of Courage (Lion)
  • Labyrinth 09 – Temple of Nayru Goddess of Wisdom (Skull)

Yeah, trying to go for something a bit separate and distinct from the canonical descriptions of things!

I like it! Like how you're integrating other games from the series into the lore and whatnot!

I was just playing through OoT the other day actually! That's an interesting thought for sure!

Though, there is a lone tree on an island in Lake Hylia...
