Description Another piece I did, back in the Summer last year.

Idea was a potential book cover or leaf illustration of some sort. Once I finish Mona Lisa Overdrive, I may get to doing illustrations akin to this one for the other two in the Sprawl Trilogy. I do want to design the characters from both those books first however!

This is my favorite imagery if my all time favorite novel. I would love this on the cover of the classic paperback that I could reread for years lol

Thanks a ton, I appreciate it!

I'd love to do covers like this, but for the other two books in the trilogy some time as well!

Pretty much exactly how I imagine the matrix, well done.

Thanks a ton! I'd rather have it more understated and ominous than something kinda silly and "Gee-whiz, this is what the internet looks like!"

Same! Count Zero is good, though not as interesting as Neuromancer. Reading through the third one right now and it's great so far!

Heard that it's a little more accessible and not as weird, but still plenty quirky of course. Definitely on my 'to-read' list!

One doesn't usually thing of the '80s in terms of retro-future, but I think what makes your Sprawl stuff so good is you make it look like it was envisioned at the time. Not our future, but their future.

Deimos-Remus In reply to Bastard-Bird [2016-01-29 19:58:30 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I appreciate that!

Definitely what I was goin' for! Like an alternate future that stemmed out of the aesthetics of the 80s rather than looking blatantly "futuristic".

I imagine the Sprawl setting to resemble the early to mid 1990s on steroids in my head.

Deimos-Remus In reply to TedShatner10 [2016-02-02 03:02:44 +0000 UTC]

Definitely a mix of that too, especially with the fashion!

TedShatner10 In reply to Deimos-Remus [2016-02-03 17:16:08 +0000 UTC]

If I did design drawings for Neuromancer and its sequels the city settings would resemble a more run down, built up version of San Angeles from "Demolition Man".

Also other early to mid 1990s cyberpunk films like Total Recall, Lawnmower Man, Hackers, Freejack, Fortress, and Split Second are very good visual inspirations for the Sprawl setting as well. An alternate 2000s to 2020s where a ton of ray tubes television screens and fewer flat plasma/LED screens than today exist alongside brain plug computers that are some ways far more advanced than our smartphones, but oddly basic in others. That kind of near future that branched off our current future slightly....

Deimos-Remus In reply to TedShatner10 [2016-03-01 19:45:26 +0000 UTC]

Totally! Love Total Recall! Wouldn't mind watching Strange Days sometime though, heard that was pretty good and definitely within the cyberpunk genre.

Ghost in the Shell also presents a near-perfect look for the Sprawl as well. Still stuck in traditional architecture roots, but it's more the inner belly and workings of the city that have all the technology at their disposal.
