Description The Keepers of Eon are the ones who tend to the great synthetic world of Eon, making sure it continues to operate smoothly and that the locals who call Eon home live in relative peace. Large, peaceful creatures, the Keepers of Eon swim as easily through the void of space as they do through the endless seas of their ancient homeworld.Β

This....this is just so....beyond badass! Everything about it makes me want to get in there and hang out with it.

Hey cool beans! While the concept of civilization-founding-ancients isn't exactly fresh, the design and overall feel of the character is. These Keepers of Eon are a simply gorgeous, and I like that they lack humanoid features altogether. When we think "ancient beings" we immediately jump to "humanoid", and here that idea is flipped on its head. At least they have arms, and fins we know of from Earth, and I thiiiiiiink that's a tail. Haha! It's a gorgeous specie design. Like the other people within your galaxy, it would be cool to see a biological breakdown of this species, to understand how they think, communicate, and act. But for the time being I'll settle for this question: how do they move when swimming? Do they tuck their arms and glide like a plesiosaur, or undulate side-to-side like a fish? <3

(THESE ARE LEGITIMATE QUESTIONS. I love aquatic people)

Also, does this concept-- Eon, and the Keepers-- belong within your pre-existing paracosm, or are they in a separate universe altogether? I definitely like them, and think they'd fit marvelously with all the others. And what is Eon like? Is it advanced and managed scientifically, or do the Keepers act like "overseers" in a largely natural world? khkjhkhklkj. You just opened up a whooole new can of RIBBONTAIL QUESTION WHOOPASS.

Tvisual art on this one is great too; I can't offer any critiques. It's got a nice, painted texture and the faded right fins give it a good sense of depth. Great work, Inseng!

YOU WANT ME TO TALK ABOUT EON? I CAN TALK ABOUT EON.Β

Eon itself isn't actually a planet via conventional means, and it wasn't actually created by the Keepers themselves, they were just tasked with guarding and running it. "Keepers of Eon" refers to both the species themselves, and a larger organization composed of more than one species. The Keepers themselves hail from an ocean covered planet and swim with a curious sort of undulating movement, like a shark, though they do go through long stretches of gliding with their side fins outstretched. You're right in that they tuck their arms in, they also lower their head and streamline their shapes.Β

They became advanced enough in their time that they achieved space flight. And actually, most of the Keepers seen around the cosmos in the present day seem to be largely mechanical in nature at first glance; that is because they wear complicated space suits in order to survive off planet. Their technology is so advanced they they don't really even use spaceships, they are able to swim through space itself just like they do through the ancestral waters of their ancient home.Β

The Keepers themselves are very, very social beings, and some of them are far too curious for their own good. It's that curiousity that drove them off world, and it's that curiousity that lent them their current job of managing Eon. Their spoken language is very musical in nature. The fluffy gill-like things lining the bottom of their necks are where they actually produce sound. They don't have mouths, they trap and filter feed through their gills like Earth whales. Because their language is so hard to replicate, they like to take it upon themselves to learn native languages for better communication. When speaking another language they almost sound like they're whistling and singing instead of talking "normally".Β

As for Eon itself, well, I actually refer to it as a "Gyroworld". It's huge and resembles a giant spinning top sitting in the void of space. Three giant rings encircle it, always turning, simulating a gravitational pull, and the innermost ring is inset with synthetic neutron stars to simulate a day/night sequence. I drew a sketch of it a long while back actually: 31.media.tumblr.com/2dfd61b90a…

The two glowing energy sources at its poles are kind of like the black boxes in planes, they record everything that happens. The locals revere them as "places where the gods meet during the night", but really they're just super advanced digital libraries, so that the Eon project will never be forgotten. As for how Eon runs, well, the locals have no idea they've evolved and are living on a synthetic world. They see the Keepers as spirits or demons that live past the Sea of Stars and view them with a mixture of fear and awe. The civilization on Eon isn't technologically advanced as ours. Think Pirates of the Caribbean, but with a mixture of humans and other humanoid species, and that's pretty much what Eon is like.Β

AND YES, Eon is in the same universe as all my other stories! c:

Fascinating creature design. Β If I were to place it as a creature that developed on a planet, I'd think it developed in the upper atmosphere of a planet with a very thick atmosphere, and that it was buoyant due to sacs of gas in its body and tail.

Picturing them as space travelling is interesting, a little like the organic starship in (Farscape?) some sci fi show.

Your concepts are really interesting. Β not everyone has a knack for them, but you've really got one (:Β

Thank you! *BLUSHES PROFUSELY*Β

Actually I thought of them more as aquatic in origin rather than gas based. I don't know what their homeworld is like, but I always pictured it as harbouring a giant, planetwide ocean, sort of like the concept of Solaris but without the sentient planet part. Though Solaris is awesome and I need to reread it sometime.Β

Mmm, yep, could see that as well. Β Mind you gas faring and ocean faring only differ in buoyancy and streamlining (fun fysics fact: gases and liquids both operate under fluid dynamics). Β They sound like an interesting creature.

Well I am glad then. I'm not the smartest cookie around when it comes to more intricate, in depth science details, so I tend to just do what seems to make the most sense with my limited knowledge. D;Β

Everyone can know at least something about science, sometimes the problem is with the way it is taught, not with the learner.

<: Β but hey, I'll offer that if you ever want something explained, I can try to explain it. Β I've got a physics degree backing me up, and university level biology and chemistry as well, now. Β And programming (omg, I am such a massive nerd. ahahah)
