I have seen it multiple times in my time in secondary school that people can be ignored. I never was as I never allowed myself to be
but I know people who were and are still 'awkward'. So I make my mission that whenever I stride into class, to sit with anyone who is by themselves! (I know who prefers to sit by themselves and who doesn't choose to).
Just take one class, you don't always have to sit with your friends, and you can explain to them if they get upset, but it can make a big difference to someone who feels excluded for someone like ya to appear and take an interest in them!
So yea, you could make a HUGE impact on someone just by simply choosing to sit with them and saying hello! It might not seem like much to you, but it could really mean the world to them.
And the title choice cuz I felt it truly fit

This is such a lovely poem and I can really take it to heart.
A person I know was this kid. So one day I decided to sit with her one lunchtime at school. Even though she was distant, and at times blanked me, she finally opened up to me. Found out she was suffering from depression and was being emotionally bullied by the people around her. So each day I went to chill with her at lunch and as the months went by I realised she is absolutely full of character and is one of the funniest people I know.
We have now been best friends for over 4 years. -^_^-

I have to sit next to somebody in every lesson apart from History now (My teacher moved me to the front today because I was having trouble seeing) But none are my friends, we're put into seating plans... ^^'

Well... that may work but it also depends on the kid's personality.
I'm one of those people... even if we talked, unless we had something in common I would have more or less a cold facede that people seem to think i don't care or i'm mad (which mostly isn't true and I'm not putting a front I just don't have a reason to smile).

This poem is a wonderful thing. I never sat on my own, because there were just never enough desks for that, but I always felt like I was alone in a sea of faces. Nobody ever took the initiative to approach me, or start a conversation with me. I hated school from grade one to matric. University is proving to be no different. If it weren't for my best friend Middie, who I met in my last years of high school, and became soul sisters with when I was in grade twelve (she was two years above me, so she graduated first), the loneliness probably would've killed me years ago. I was a pretty depressed kid until we found each other, and she helped to fix me up.

I love this poem so much. This happens to me almost every school year. I'm the awkward kid who doesn't have anyone to sit with in class. Then somebody just kind of decides to be my friend and sits with me. And then a year later they ask me how we even became friends, and I laugh. <3

Im not that Social... Im very very shy. When someone sits next to me I try to hide how happy I am on the inside.
I feel like someone has noticed me for once. Usually I get noticed for the wrong things like being bullied but when this person sits next to me I feel better.

Wow... I must say this poem really says it all. I'm one of those awkward kids that doesn't really talk all that much in class so I really appreciate those moments when someone come to say hello. It's nice to know someone cares. It really makes my day

THIS. right here. this is truly amazing. i was one of those awkward kids through school and almost nobody game me a chance. but when someone finally did, it was really cool to see that someone out there cared. so as one of the people who didn't have someone just sit next to them (until around 9th or 10th grade) thank you.

It's been a while since I've been in high school but I wish that there were more people like this back when I was, it probably would've helped me out through a lot of issues I've had to deal with and that still affects me to this day. Still, I am very happy to see more people these days being friendly to others and trying to prevent bullying. Thank you for making this.

Most kids just don't care about anyone else as long as they got their popularity and friends, it's good to see not everyone's like that!
