I have seen it multiple times in my time in secondary school that people can be ignored. I never was as I never allowed myself to be
but I know people who were and are still 'awkward'. So I make my mission that whenever I stride into class, to sit with anyone who is by themselves! (I know who prefers to sit by themselves and who doesn't choose to).
Just take one class, you don't always have to sit with your friends, and you can explain to them if they get upset, but it can make a big difference to someone who feels excluded for someone like ya to appear and take an interest in them!
So yea, you could make a HUGE impact on someone just by simply choosing to sit with them and saying hello! It might not seem like much to you, but it could really mean the world to them.
And the title choice cuz I felt it truly fit

I actually do this sometimes. Whenever I'm in lunch or find someone sitting alone and I'm with my friends i go and join them and ask if they would like to sit with me and my friends if not i stay and talk awhile.

I'd sit with someone if they were alone,
but the only person alone is me.

I actually have tears in my eyes from this. This poem actually means so much to me, it's so beautiful. I'm not gonna lie, I used to be the kid who sat by themself all the time, i never really had friends in elementary or junior high and one day in the 7th grade there was one girl who sat next to me and I knew who she was cause she was pretty popular and it really changed my life. She's become one of my best friends since then and I really think about that day a lot. Seriously this poem really hits close to home and it's just so beautifully written, as are all your poems by the way (:

If only someone did the same for me when I was schooling...
But I came out relatively alright, fortunately.
I got people who sat beside me not by choice: there wasn't any empty seats left.
Those by themselves out of shyness/shunned due to being "different" know when someone sits next to them with a good heart or because there's no other empty seats.

The problem in my school is that people will talk and laugh with you and PRETEND to like you but then they talk behind your back and say terrible things about you much worse then just being ignored if you ask me.

i am that unbelieveably awkward kid who sits alone, and one person started talking to me a long time ago and we are like sisters now^^..but we r far apart. still awkward tho. so this year i made it be my mission to befriend the kids who are in the same position i was in before, and once i looked past their outsides, i can see how beautiful and awesome they are. we see too many kiddos being all depressed to the core and commiting suicide cuz they are bullied and no one cares to talk to them..hopefully we can reduce that amount?..GAH TOO LONG XD

Last year, there was a girl in my lunch who used to always wear a tail and collar... she was an anime nerd, and she just really was into cosplaying and loved cats.
Needless to say, oftentimes she was alone. I sat next to her one day and started talking to her.
I'm glad I did :-] She was really nice ^_^

If there came a new student to our class that is very shy and lonely, I MIGHT do like that. I would if that person would be nice.
Might only because I've done that many times and every time it ended up noticing that the person got new friends and doesn't care about me anymore.
Thought I usually am that one nobody wants to be with, except my two friends. I'm very happy I met them.

I'm not an awkward kid (haha like the only one who's said that so far), but this is still awesome! Sometimes you don't even notice that kid. I need to remember to do this more often, because it is my firm belief that you will never regret getting to know someone.

Thank-you for writing this. I'm often that "awkward person" who just doesn't know who to approach people. There's a long story behind why, but that's not a story for the comments section. It really does make difference, and can even SAVE LIVES. I wish there were more people like you.

This is just really sweet. I love it. I've been one of those socially awkward kids my whole life, and I tend to keep to myself. I am getting better at speaking up, but I'm still quiet by nature. But that friendly type of person that will talk to anyone always ends up finding me, and they easily get me out of my shell, and quickly become my best friend. I may not always have the confidence to make the first move, but I don't really need to, so long as there's a social butterfly around. And I love it when they talk to me. They may be crazy, but that's what I like about them. They're just the type of friend that I need.

I love this poem. <3 I'm one of those awkward people, and one day this girl just came up to me when I was standing off from the crowd and she hung out with me for the rest of the day. That really made me feel so happy! I felt included and such. <3

this is really cute! I have a clique that always sits by themself in lunch. This year one of my friends and I just had enough of it, and we sat with the new kids and the "awkward" kids at school and our group decided to join us one day. somehow everyone started getting together at that table then, and now It is one big group. So I totally agree with the poem. One should not only sit with the people you know and ignore others. The loners could turn out to have nice characters, or they are really weird, but at least you did something nice by taking some time to get to know them.

I became well known in my highschool, I collected the misfits and loners and brought them into one group, since I left it's started to fall apart, my occasional visits seem to bring it back together however, even tho the original people who were there are no longer. Kinda makes me happy that someone can recognize what one has done without ever knowing them.

I don't sit on my own because my class don't like me, and I'm not a loner, I'm just very chatty, and loud. If I don't sit my ass down by myself, I will be distracted, talk all class and get next to no work done. I don't get to sit with anyone else either because my class has 23; I am the odd one out.
And I don't really like my class, none of them like the things I like, we never have much to talk about, I just bather on about some kid, or something I read or some shit

While this is true, on the other hand some people just want to be left alone. I remember all the times when I was in middle school/elementary being pestered by people because I looked "sad" or when I was alone. They assumed the worst because I didn't talk/have a naturally unemotive face, and would pester me until they got a response. Now, I'm not saying that giving someone a smile is a bad thing, or even going up and making conversation. But for goodness sake, if someone politely doesn't want to talk to you/is doing their own thing, don't stick around. Some people are just introverted/don't need any more friends/are trying to be alone for a reason. Sorry to be a Debbie downer, this is just a word of caution.

Oh my God, I read all your poems and they're so sweet and friendly. I used to be such a depressed kid that I began cutting myself at times because I was afraid that I felt nothing, that I felt empty. Then one day I decided to stop being depressed and slowly started taking baby steps to overcome my depression. I started reading inspirational quotes, poems, stories, I read anything that was humorous, watched comedies and funny videos, started exercising (because apparently people who exercise are happier) and I just kept thinking about happy things.
Thankfully, I've overcome that depression and though I admit that your poems weren't the only things that helped me overcome my depression, they helped a lot, probably the most out of everything I've read. So thanks, and keep this up.
They're so beautifully written and I love the colors you use to highlight certain words, really makes things more positive.

Sad story ;
Once this boy was walking of f the buss and this other kid while he was walking accidentally bumped into him and he spilled his books everwhere so the other kid helped pick up the books then they realized they sorta live in the same area so they became friends it turned out that the reason the boy had so many books was because he was clearing out his locker because he was going to kill himself.. if it wasn't for that one boy to bump into him and become his friend he wouldn't be here today.
