Description
Lazily done, but there it is~ A tutorial on how to make a neat lineart in Paint.NET using a mouse. I saw a few tutorials on this, actually. But without the tapering ;3 And please don't mind the mistakes in the finished lineart (like 2 of her fingers), I didn't pay much attention to the lines... Anyways, I hope somebody finds it useful. You can download Paint.NET from www.getpaint.net

Thanks for making this, it's helpful for making prettier lines!
But I have a question, do you know how to separate the lineart from the white background without having those opaque white pixels around it?

My lineart layer is checkered. Did I do something wrong...?

You didn't fill it in with white. But if you're planning to colour the picture in Paint.NET it's alright to leave it transparent (you'll see it as checkered bg).

Oh, alright! Thanks. (: One more thing, could you tell me how to change the tool box back to windowed? I acidentally closed the box, and it became a tool bar. Ugh. I like the windowed mode... Thank you in advance!

Sorry to bother you, but when I create the new layer it's automatically transparent, how do I fix this?

DemonedAway In reply to Johman3 [2009-12-31 08:08:38 +0000 UTC]
I don't remember if there's an option like this, but well. When you're creating a new layer and a window pops up you might be able to select wheter it should be white or transparent there.
But if there's no such option, then simply fill the layer white with the paint bucket.

hi question
when i lowered the opacity of the sketch layer, it got all checker-like and stuff. and the line/curve tool was fainter.
so, what does that mean???

DemonedAway In reply to ToffeeLOL2 [2009-12-20 08:13:56 +0000 UTC]
That means you started making the lineart on the sketch layer.

OH MY GOD, thank you. I hated lineart with this because I didn't get why every black line I made had a bunch of other monochromatic color pixels next to it, but layers? I don't get it, but I'm sure it'll be better.

Unfortunately, no. And it's best to experiment for yourself, I guess, everyone starts this way and you can actually sometimes figure out more by yourself than from tutorials.

Double click on the layer in which you want to change opacity. A window will pop up. There you can change the opacity.

Yes. Make a new layer, put it under the lineart layer and fill it with white. That's it.

Double click on the sketch layer. A window will appear. In the box with the numbers next to the word "Opacity" type 85, or simply use the scroll next to it.

thx 4 the tutorial i still dont get how you make the edges sharp every time i do it with an eraser it looks really bad
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DemonedAway In reply to raeraychan [2009-06-23 17:13:02 +0000 UTC]
Because you won't get the sharp edge effect if using an eraser. You must use the curve tool. Play around with it, even if it takes some time you'll eventually figure out how to do it.

But the lineart still looks quite edgy..how do I get rid of that? Make it a smooth lineart?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DemonedAway In reply to Senzi [2009-06-17 16:26:08 +0000 UTC]
You can go to Effects > Blur > Gaussian blur and set the blur radius to 1 pixel.
The lineart will be slightly blurred and thus should look softer. I don't know any other way to make it softer, sorry.
