Description
Lazily done, but there it is~ A tutorial on how to make a neat lineart in Paint.NET using a mouse. I saw a few tutorials on this, actually. But without the tapering ;3 And please don't mind the mistakes in the finished lineart (like 2 of her fingers), I didn't pay much attention to the lines... Anyways, I hope somebody finds it useful. You can download Paint.NET from www.getpaint.net

You just need to fill in the colour with the paint bucket.

Are you sure you made a new layer for the lineart? You might have drawn the lineart on the sketch layer.

nvm thats exactly wat i did. thanx 4 the tutorial it helped me alot. but, my lineart layer has the lines but no background.

For the background, make a new layer under the lineart layer and simply fill it in with a colour.

I think the traditional sketch looks awesome but when you outline it digitally, it takes away its originality and the appearence of skill.

Well, traditional and digital both have their own types of charm. Which one you like more is the matter of taste~

Ohh this is really helpful! But on mine, lots or grey and white squares come up when I put the opacity to 85. Why is that? Did I miss a step?
π: 0 β©: 1
DemonedAway In reply to KelloBear [2009-02-11 20:58:03 +0000 UTC]
Maybe you were doing everything on one layer?

KelloBear In reply to DemonedAway [2009-02-11 22:24:44 +0000 UTC]
I dont think so...I have 2 layers up right now. Im tracing over the lines with the opacity at 85, but instead of a white background, it goes to looking like several white and grey squares. Like, you know how it looks the same when you try to make a color transparent, right?

Do you have the background on the second layer filled in white? If not it's because it's transparent.

Here's a little tip: use a smaller brush size when doing the hair. It makes the hair look more...idk, wispy? At any rate, it more aptly conveys the feel of hair. It's something I think works well.

Well, for the whole lineart I used a 2px line, because 1px looks just bad... And 3px would look too bold.

margstergirl In reply to DemonedAway [2009-01-28 14:02:29 +0000 UTC]
I agree, and I use a 2px line for almost everything else. But for features that need to seem more delicate, I prefer to use a 1px line.

You shouldn't steal other peoples pictures for these :/

DemonedAway In reply to hidingunderabridge [2009-01-11 11:15:39 +0000 UTC]
It's not stolen since a gave a credit for it. I do not claim it's mine. And not only I use others' work for tutorials.
A tutorial's purporse is to help people, anyways. Not stealing somebody's work, I guess.

Wow that's awesome! I knew you could use Line tool for inking in Paint.NET, but I never liked to use it because it doesn't have sharp edges. I never thought of tapering though. But it'll be so much easier now, because all I have to do is left click then right click!
YOU'RE A GENIUS!

Wow! This has been really helpful! Thanks for doing it! One question: how do you taper? O_O
π: 0 β©: 1
DemonedAway In reply to BrokenWingz123 [2008-12-03 14:31:12 +0000 UTC]
Well, that a really hard thing to explain. You have to have white set as your secondary colour. Then you have to, while holding your RIGHT mouse button make a line. Now using the anchor points set the line, so the edge of the line will looks sharp.
I hope you can understand it now, it really can't make it any clear since english's not my mother languege

Wow! Amazing! I used Photoshop before, and it's tricky to do lineart, PLUS doing colourings in Paint.net was tricky my own way.
But this is a very good way of doing things.
Thanks very much
