Raphaela was upset. About her herself, the new intern, and the doctors. And the day it happened.
Her morning train was late that cursed day and she had to rush from the station to the office to be on time. In front of the entrance, her heels got caught in the new drainage grid, and she nearly fell over. She hurt her ankle, but it was tolerable, and even more so after she found a first aid kit between two meetings and bandaged it. Irritating so far, but manageable.
However, that should change. In an afternoon meeting, a clumsy intern fell when she tried to retrieve some files from a shelf . With the intern laying on the floor looking miserable, papers spread all over the place, Raphaela decided to get a first aid kit. As she came back with the very same she used in the morning, she slipped on one of the files and hurt her other other ankle in the process. The pain was way worse this time.
As the paramedics picked up the intern, they told Raphaela she should have her ankle examined as well, as it was quite swollen by then. A few hours later, an austere doctor told her that one of her ankles was broken, while the other one just badly sprained: the best treatment would be to immobilize both her feet.
When she also complained about neck pain due to her fall, as if they wanted to add further insult to injury, they prescribed her a neck brace too.
Raphaela hence left the hospital with some new accessories, that she already detested: A large, sweaty neck brace, which in her opinion was way too big, and two rigid fiberglass casts on her feet.
