Description
I decided to title this simply 'Eve'.I think I have tapped deeply into Jordan Peterson's Biblical Lectures seriesΒ as I keep listening to them over an over again while I work. I would be really flattered to know that this image reached him and that he could recognize in it a lot of the symbols he discusses with his students. I hope you enjoy this imagery too. If you do, please share it, tag it, do whatever you can to help it be seen. To me it holds a certain amount of truth that I think needs to be learned.
With all my love, Lua

Congrats on the DD!
And cool to see some great work related to Jordan Peterson's lectures. I had just checked out Cain & Abel a couple weeks ago, and I def have to back and watch/rewatch the rest. Throw in some Carl Jung, "Hero with 1000 Faces" and you go down rabbit holes inside rabbit holes of symbolism. haha

Yeah, I guess that was the whole point of this piece. I had a period during which I watched Peterson's lectures day in and day out, and I tried to internalize and understand as much as possible of it. Thank you for telling me my work is good. To be honest, I am not sure anymore.

I'm no critic, but I'm intrigued by the heart shape in the composition, and the way none of the hands seem to belong to the central figure (Eve, I presume) at all. Perhaps they are the hands of God? She seems acted upon rather than acting. And what of her head being severed?Β
I'm struck most by how little an idea I have of what this means. It is quite beautiful, though.

The severed head was something that came naturally when I drew it, and only found the reason for it later. It represents the separation of mind from emotion; physical from rational. The heart... it symbolizes love - and I might stretch it out here - but love manifests in physical and non-physical ways too. The hands are those of God. God places the fruit in the garden, allows the snake to tempt Eve and ultimately gives her the ability to kill the snake. He basically opens her eyes to the reality of the world, yet not completely as humans do not know all there is to know of the world. You should try listening to Peterson's lectures on youtube. He explains more and better than I can.

Aha...! I thought that might be the case with the hands. I think you've done a wonderful job of explaining it yourself, but perhaps I will.

I think about the conversations that Adam and Eve had about the tree, before their fall.Β The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16Β And the Lord God commanded the man, βYou are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17Β but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die." In this scripture God told Adam not to eat from the tree, but laterΒ 2Β The woman said to the serpent, βWe may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3Β but God did say, βYou must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die. It is interesting that Eve added the phrase "you must not touch it. Apparently Adam and Eve must have discussed the tree's presence and had originally decided not to even touch it for fear of dying.

Either that, or God might have had a separate conversation with Eve that didn't make it through the multiple cuts and editions of the book.

This is fantastic! My husband has been listening to Jordan Peterson and has been discussing things with me about the lectures, so this is actually pretty relevant. Beautiful piece of art with such deep, well thought-out symbolism.

This is wonderful. It's very profound how you've depicted all the elements together: the Mother Humankind herself; the Forbidden Fruit; the Serpent; the dagger representing Man's Mortality; one eyelid being held open, representing Enlightenment; and the thorny branches representing the lifelong struggle ahead... or, perhaps, symbolizing the looming war between the Serpent and Eve's distant Descendant ("You will bruise his heel -- but he will [crush] your head")?Β
Great stuff! Keep on creating! (Ooh... sorry for the unintentional pun, there...)Β

This is gorgeous, I love the composition overall, her figure framed by those eerie hands and the colours you used. I do wonder though, why is her head detached? I have to listen to those lectures too, they sound interesting.

The separation of head from body was something I drew initially because it felt right, although I couldn't explain why. I later realized that there is a separation of mind from body or from mind from emotion. The hand are God, who apart from being represented by a trinity in Christian symbolism, manifests Himself on a physical, intellectual and metaphysical plane. Thus, the three pairs of hands addressingΒ the three different 'components' of a human being.
