Description The final outcome for my current assignment titled, "What is communication design?" (First version here )

I kinda rethought the concept over and decided to go with how design surrounds us. It's everywhere, it shapes our world. That's the text that runs along the bottom of the poster.. "Design shapes. Our world.", where "shapes" can be read as the noun or verb; to shape the world. I thought that was very catchy when my tutor suggested that idea. Also, the can, bottle, road sign, hot air balloons all represent elements of what graphic design involves.

I'm happy with both the posters I've produced.. each has its own special quality. They were also enjoyable to work on. Hopefully the tutor gives me my 50% of my semester's marks..

I hope your class appreciates this one more, you definitely supported your reasoning behind this piece! I like the bottle and the can hanging from the bottom and I must ask, did you create the sprays and splatters/drips yourself, or are there brushes where you can do that? (I ask, because I see sprays and splatters/drips a lot now days, and while I could probably just draw them myself, I just wanna fool around and see how they look on things for fun haha but if you drew them yourself, then that's awesome and more power to ya!! )

I think I personally like your first version more (I'm a fan of lighter/pastel things, more, hehe) But this one rocks, too!

Thankfully, we didn't have to present this to the class. But I think they'd probably like it more since it's more direct and less abstract. Yup, I made the sprays/splatters myself.. thought I'd take this opportunity to try out a bit of graffiti style I know what you mean, I used to use Photoshop brushes to create textures but eh, it's not that hard to make your own and it's even more original

I think I like my first version a little more than this one too Something about it just appeals to me more..

Ah, that's good you only have to endure the [un]constructive cricicism of your class once!

oooh! that's awesome you did them yourself! XD could you give me some pointers how you went about doing it? did you use the pen tool mainly?

The sprays? Well, invest in cheap black spray paint, spray on cardboard/paper and scan. Well that's what I did anyway.. the solid black vectors however, were done in Illustrator with the pen tool

... black thingie? o_O You mean the whole black cloud? It's just a mark. Just like how the other elements are there to tie the whole picture in together

Very Urbanic style. Smoke, Oil, Pollution. It's a very interesting piece. You may consider to use it as an evironmental protection poster as well as your coursework.

Hmm, that's a good idea. Never really thought about it from a "pollution" point of view since I kept focusing on its graffiti aspect, but I see your point! Thank you
