Description
The butterfly flies into thunderstorms just to feel something. The girl cut herself so that she might stop the feelings. A chance meting of two similar souls, both bearing scars.
They survey each other; and realise, they are not alone.
Mm, a very personal drawing for me... I want to give a butterfly. Have you heard of the Butterfly Project? It's an initiative intended to help stop self harm.
Butterfly Project rules:
1. When you feel like you want to cut, take a marker or pen and draw a butterfly wherever the self-harm occurs.
2. Name the butterfly after a loved one, or someone that really wants you to get better.
3. NO scrubbing the butterfly off.
4. If you cut before the butterfly is gone, it dies. If you don't cut, it lives.
5. Another person may draw them on you. These butterflies are extra special. Take good care of them.
6. Even if you don’t cut, feel free to draw a butterfly anyway, to show your support.
I didn't hear about this project till after I was out of my personal crisis, but I really like the idea, supporting yourself or/and friends though tough times. But I don't think its perfect. See number 4? Your butterfly dies if you cut. When I was at my worst point I know I couldn't look after myself let alone a butterfly, real or not.
So I drew this, to give a butterfly, her name is Hope, she wont die when you cut her, because she's been through it already. She is just there for you, on your skin, a reminder that you are not alone. I wish could draw Hope on every person who needs her; if this is you, please pick up a pen and draw her onto you from me. She is a big raggedy, far from perfect, but beautiful in her uniqueness, and kind in her heart, she doesn't judge you, she is just there with you, to remind you that however bad you feel there are others like you, and people who love you.
To feel so bad that you hurt yourself to feel better. It's terribly twisted logic and a horrible thing to experience... and actually some of the most common form of self harm is actually alcohol and drug abuse.
People do all sorts of things to cope. That's what self harm is, trying to cope.
I urge anyone going through this to try and find other coping mechanisms, ones that don't cause harm.. Hurting yourself makes you feel better for a moment, but the right help can make the rest of your life feel better. See a doctor, see a councillor, therapist, talk to someone, The Samaritan are always on the end of the phone. There is hope, I know, which is why I give Hope. I wish I could do more, but every person must face their own demons, I'm just letting them know they don't have to do it alone.
What I am doing is donating 10% of the profit of each print of this sold to the Samaritans, a worldwide charity who provide emotional support to people in distress. #
What can you do? Draw Hope. Share your story; and read others stories, and talk. Lets not keep this in the shadows. Please feel free to share this
Peace, love and fading scars,
~Blue x

This is so amazing and wonderful I myself have never cut, but God knows I've wanted to. I may be out of my crisis now, but I'd like to support this as much as I can whenever I can. I'm going to get a butterfly tattoo when I'm old enough, so that way when I look at it, I can be reminded of this incredible project, and work on bringing butterflies back into the world. This piece is THAT inspiring and moving, I kid you not, and helps me remember that the smallest action or word-like saying a friendly hello, or drawing a butterfly-can make the biggest difference.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful piece of work, both with me and with the world. I'll never forget this for as long as I live

Oh god I can relate to this so very much. I almost literally cried when I saw this. I stopped cutting in November after my grandmother passed away so that I could be strong for everyone else, but it is so hard to quit... I'd done it for two years and I have scars all over my legs, but only a single, thick scar on my left arm from a suicide attempt. There is so much emotion in this drawing... There is pain in her eyes, but the warm colors around her make it appear as though she's coming out of the pain and truly has hope (both literally and metaphorically). The way her hair seems to encase the butterfly and the lighting around/behind the butterfly... well, it's truly inspirational and gives me strength. Drawing this piece must have taken a lot of courage (I'm not sure I'd feel okay with drawing something so deep and personal and showing it to people. I'm just not that strong, yet.) and I really admire you for this. Whether or not you personally did this to yourself, it says a lot about you. This drawing isn't just about the pain of the past... it's about the hope of the future.
Thank you for being here.
Thank you for giving Hope to everyone who sees your art.

Thank you so much for your touching comment
I'm so glad cutting is a thing in the past for you, I hope you see your scars as a strength.
Yes, it was a tough piece to draw, brought up a lot of emotions, but I know whats in my past so many people are going through in their present, and if I could help a little then its worth it...

You're welcome You're really a wonderful artist and inspirational person.
I've come to think of them as something that defines me. My past made me into a stronger person. While I still think they look ugly, well, there's really nothing I can do about them now.
I'm sure this helped many people. It's really a wonderful picture in so many ways.

Oh wow, this is really inspirational. I do not cut myself, but I am still tempted to draw a butterfly on my wrist or something, just to show my support. I pray that this art and the Butterfly Project help many people.

I wish you all the best with your struggles, please feel free to use Hope whenever you need her. Please try and find a better coping strategy than hurting yourself when you feel down. Your school probably had a councilor you can talk to

You can do it, you know. I am having the same problem, not cutting but other ways of physically hurting myself, because I tend to think that I am fat or ugly or simply not enough, or maybe because I have hurt someone, even unintentionally. But I am slowly getting out of this. So I suppose that you can do that, too. I guess that our reasons may be different but we both deserve to sometimes not to give a shit about what other people think or do or say, and not to hurt ourselves. (I guess that I am saying this now so I won't give up either.)
Since I am having a similar problem like you if you want to tell me something or... I don't know, something, feel free to.

I read the message you let above..
It's important to avoid depression and to believe in hope to be one person and not to be "dissociated".
Unfortunately, this world is full of temptations (drugs, dirty sex, alcohol, consumption without frontier, corporations whose goal is to pervert the human being). We must be aware of that and to mind the dangers..
Your picture is nice, compliments!
Nice week!
