Description
" I am here for that, to teach you the art of pleasure." He reached out his other hand, and gently pulled me down. "Come. I promise you, you will like it much more with me."I did not resist persuasion. He might indeed possess some magic, by whose power all would be well. So at first it still appeared, for he was as skilled as he was charming, like a creature from another world than that I had been frequenting; it seemed one could linger forever in the outer courts of delight.
I said, "I might belong to you."
"I too, Gazelle-Eyes. But you are for my betters. So don't fall in love with me; we shall be parting all too soon. "
— The Persian Boy - Mary Renault
Beautiful boys Bagoas and Oromedon (on the top). Art by my sister.

Well, Bagoas is essentially a sex slave to kings and lords who is renowned for his legendary beauty and grace and he falls in love his sex teacher, Oromedon, and later his king Alexander the Great so... yeah. It's very well written and historically accurate as well.

I watched Alexander the movie, and it pissed me off that they were so homophobic they didn't even have them kiss. That is, they were fine with having Alexander kiss his own mother in an erotic way, but not his male lover. Assholes.

Haha, and thy cut out the scene with Bagoas. Disappointing for a slasher isn't it? Well, I can still say that Alexander is a good movie, because there are movies even worse in that point I go like WHYYYYYY

I really appreciate you guys pointing it out ot me, but I still can't see it as a good movie if they were homophobic enough to cut that scene out, when there are countless films with gratuitous lesbian hardcore parts when it wasn't even advertised in the trailer. Then a film comes about about a person who famously had a male lover and they're too afraid to show it because they're that homophobic. The fact that other films are even worse in that regard doesn't make this one good, it makes all of them bad. No one makes a big deal out of films where guys make out, unless the person who made the film is so insecure as to raise a big circus about the fact that "zomg two guys were kissing," like how in Brokeback Mountain they made it into this huge circus.

Yeah, I suppose that not certainly the homophobia of creators was the reason to cut out these scenes, but the homophobia of the popularity, because movie was to be on the big screen and production was afraid to lose their money. Also, there was a scandal before shooting the movie, when greeks were outraged by the fact that somebody is gonna make a movie about their "hero" as a homosexual character.

I think you may have seen an altered version. He did kiss Bagoas, they have two kissing scenes together.

I don't think he kisses Hephistion, but I think the point of that is that their love is supposed to be somewhat more gentle and ethereal than his love with the others i.e. Roxane and Bagoas.

I'll go ahead and watch it, but I saw the film back when it came out (I'm 36) and there was definitely no kissing scene, I explicitly remember waiting for one (obviously that was the entire reason I saw the movie). Still, if they cut out the scene it still really pisses me off, homophobic idiots.

Yeah, like they wanted their love to be 'platonic' but okay, can platonic lovers have a kiss? at least one. So that upsets me. Even father can have a chaste kiss with his son or brothers.
