Description

It's not finish yet, but since I uploaded something so dark and dreary last time, I'd figure I would upload something happy that I've been working on. And, what could be more happy than 2 lovers eating - erm - I mean kissing each other right?

I am having only one problem with this picture though. I want to traditionally paint it, but I don't know how! (>_<)  I want the colors to be dreamy, light, and fluffy (if that makes sense). So cell shaded painting techniques, like I've been using before, won't cut it. So, if anyone can recommend any good digital painting tutorials, it will make me happy.

Until then, I will keep trying to figure out how to paint...Darn it, it's ever so frustrating...

While I am at it, I'll post this pretty song that fits the picture nicely.

Nice piece.  I'd suggest painting your base colors and where you want your lights and shadows, then for finer details or to give the paintery effect- paint overtop of your lines. Like Loish's pieces.

Oh wow, thank you! That's exactly the kind of painterly style I was looking for.

I have 1 question however, in the second picture of Loish's process, am I too assume that her base color is the orange? She covered the entire canvas in it, so what would be the advantage to that?

I believe it was to set a mood, and then she blocked out her colors overtop of the orange.  Laying down a foundation like that makes it so your whole canvas is colored, so there's no missing bits of color layer when you're done.

It's a lengthy tutorial, but I think it explains the reasoning behind using one color really well. I am going to try it out in my paintings.
