Description Our group leader interacting with a stingray. They were all over us. There were about six or eight stingrays swimming with us at Stingray City in the Cayman Island.

Wow, that looks stunning. I myself did a similar thing a few years ago in Antigua and loved every second of it (apart from when my brother got stung).

It was pretty amazing. That just kept swimming up to us, of course they were pretty 'tame' and used to humans. I have found it a lot more interesting interacting with them in the 'wild'.

Yeah, I hear you. When we did it for the first time, it was quite funny when we first got into the water and the rays kept coming up to brush their fins past our legs. My mum wouldn't stop shrieking!

If you want to get all philosophical about it, it is a great human-animal interaction. Man gets a chance to touch the sea and the sea creatures get a chance to meet 'man.'
Or, maybe, it is just a neat shot.

To be hypercritical, I wish the stingray had moved away a lil further before I had taken the shot. I would like to have seen diver a lil better and not completely covered by the ray.

I wasn't so sure about the feeding the wildlife part. I guess I just don't like the idea of that. But I did swim around and take pictures of everybody in our group and of course the stingray. We also got to see two stingray mating. So, that was special. But I did get to touch a couple of the other stingray and their underside is just like velvet.

Couldn't more agree with you regarding feeding wildlife...afraid that wildlife will associate diver as a food source as their natural habit. Thanks for sharing those experiences...

I was informed that the local fishermen would clean their catch in the bay and that originally drew the stingray in. They were used to the fishermen cleaning their catch and the stingray would eat all the leftovers. I guess that doesn't bother me all that much. It is cool to get that close to the stingray and be able to take photographs. I am undertermined on whether or not is a good idea or not.

Those are the females. The male stingrays are about one quarter their size.
