Description Birth to First month – After anywhere from five to six months of pregnancy, the lioness will commonly give birth to a single cub though twins are not a rarity. At this stage in their life, the cubs are at their most dependent and vulnerable. They are entirely reliant on their mother’s milk, and need the constant care and attention of an adult to maintain body heat and cleaning. It’s not uncommon for cubs not to make it past this stage, succumbing to any number of factors. Cubs at this age spend much of their time sleeping and suckling. But near the one-month mark, they begin becoming more active, opening there eyes more often and even attempting to crawl and lightly play (batting at objects and lions). They may even start to make more noises other then crying, though this is unlikely.

First to Third month – cubs begin to become more active though they are still mostly dependent on their mother and other adults for their care. The mother can actually leave her cubs for a short period of times and even begin to interact with them in play. The cub’s eyes open fully and the eye color becomes finalized at about the second month. At this point, with their personality starting to shine through and survival more assured, the parent(s) will give the cub a name, though royal born cubs often named earlier to coincide with presentation.

Third to Six months – The cub will start to move about the den and even take their first tentative steps. They begin to play more roughly, pouncing and batting on tails, chewing on them with toothless maws. They even start to mimic sounds and words, though their vocabulary remains limited. The cubs can now be left for longer periods of time, though still depend on mother’s milk, and are less susceptible to the cold and sickness. Their spots will even start to blend into the coat though they still remain visible.

Six to twelve months (1 year) – Cubs become sturdier on there feet till they are fully mobile with little to no fumbling. They avidly start to speak and make sounds similar to words, and near the year mark, are able to communicate to an extent. There baby teeth start to come in and meat is introduced into their diet, though they will still suckle. The spots will begin to fade and recede (unless its some type of hereditary or birth mark). Sticks and other objects will be brought in to help with teething and the cubs will become very active in play to the point that cubs there own age will be able to play with them. However, until the year mark, cubs are restricted to the den or areas around it.

1 – 2 years – Now able to walk, play and talk, the cub is ready to join the other, older cubs and leave the den.

Something I threw together: figured that I needed an age chart sense the lions and lionesses in my universe don't follow the same age rate as lions in the wild (I mixed in human aging to make it interesting). Plus will be getting into a few factors on how the social structure of the lion prides and kingdoms work. However, each individual is different and ages a different way so what you see won't always apply to the situation.
Any way, this is the infant to young cub stage; this was the most fun simply because I got to do cute cubs and color spot onto them. As you can see, cubs keep there spots far longer in my universe, I thought that would be more neat and realistic compared to real lions.
Also for those wondering which character this is I'm using for model, I'll tentatively say my version of Kopa (only in gray tones, those aren't his finalized colors FYI). I say tentively because this will likely not be his final design, I just couldn't think of any one else to be model. There are three other parts to go and I promise tthey won't be as cluttered.
See yeah around guys and gals.

I always thought they age the same way as real lions do(Males fully grown at 3 females at 2)

Well, in my verse I went with a different age system. some where between how humans age and how actual lions age.

I disagree on only one thing. The mane tuft. The rest everything is perfect but the mane tuft is a sign that the cub has reached puberty. Between 10-13 years (humans years). An example in the movie is Kovu. His attitudes and way of doing shows that he must have more or less 10 years.
I like it, I ever wanted to do this too.

Well, the cub I'm using isn't exactly the norm, most cubs only have a pseudo mane tuft (mattering on the individual): you can get the idea for what it might become but its not the most developed. The individual I'm using for this example, my version of Kopa, is unusual in that he develops a mane tuft early. Though I may change this later now that you brought this up. Lets just say the example is a oddity rather then the norm.
