Description
Guess what I did? >:3Yep, I decided to take part in this thing but with a twist. I thought I'd combine ones to get a mega version skipping parts I didn't want to do. And here is the result, a big mish mash of so many semi-canon lion based characters. BEHOLD MY GREAT MONSTROCITY!
Anyway, onto each character.
Naanda
My version of Sarabi's eldest sister. Most people give Sarabi the standard three to four siblings based off cut characters (and even lumping in Zira at times). But me, nope, I liked the idea that Sarabi had several sisters because her name meaning and that of her cut sisters sounding like the kind of names a parent would give a kid if your running out of ideas. Naanda though was first born and filled with oppertunity towards helping the Pride and thus gets a better name then her siblings after. AT first she was slated to marry royalty, to gain allainces, then marrying royalty then taking title of Queen to lead her pride into a new better life. She is deserving of that title being very regal, intelligent, hardworking and skilled in a variety of ways for this role. She's lead by a strong love and dedication to her pride, who are like family to her, but she also makes time for her real blood family. She makes a genuine effort to get to know, love and help ALL her sisters in any way she can, wanting to see they are not ignored like she was in youth. She knows them better then any one else in the pride and sees them for what they are and not what others want them to be. For this, most of her siblings stay in touch with her through the years, making visits and including her in their lives after they are all grown. She is much beloved and remembered by family and pride for the wonderful queen and big sister she is for many years to come.
"The Selfish Lion"
There are many versions of this fella but my version goes under the common name of "Choyo", as his father wanted to remember his own selfish acts have consequences and to be more responsible going forward. The Prince of a neighboring kingdom he ends up growing into his name even if unintentionally by pride and family, becoming a very narsassitic creature that rebels against responsibility. Eventually he runs off into the more uncivilized lands, causing quite a bit of grief by using his title to get by and gain boons before running off again. One such endevor ends up in the Pridelands during a drought and his actions not only cause grief to the citizens and earning his exile, but also earns ire from the Pridelands against the Dunelands for the next couple of generations. Eventually he ends up back home, forced to stay on for years as the only available heir and eventually fathers Zira on his aging mate. He then leaves once more, never to be seen or heard of again, leaving Zira to inherit it all with her aging grandfather the only family she has left.
Shani
Either depicted as the alternate name for Kiara in early scripts or the cut sister characetr of Simba, I went with the later. Born after Mufasa's death, Sarabi was very eager to have another child after the loss of her mate and son. But as stressed and not choosing the healthiest options during early pregnancy (not learning of her condition until much later) the toll it takes on her is too much and the child is born premature and sickly. Despite Sarabi and Rafiki's desperate efforts, they fail to save little Shani, leading Sarabi to decend into a dark depression and to make some very bad decisions later on upon returning to Priderock. And the residents who had no clue of her condition or her loss. So in main timeline, Shani never get's a chance at life. But in atternate timelines we get to see more of her, she's a very just and loyal lioness who doesn't back down easily, very stubborn to a fault. She has a few good friends and even finds a love, having children afterward with her beloved husband and soulmate. Shame she never got to be that in main time line though.
Mheetu
First of the six most well known semi-canon characters of Simba's generation, the cut character from the orginal lion king script was suppose to be the tag along little brother of Nala. Most make him a half brother of Nala through her mother (often fathered by Scar) but I went a different route of making them half siblings through their shared father. Rather proud of coming up with that. Anyway Mheetu is the seewt, passive kid who wants to be involved in anything with his family and friends. His life is good, having a father, mother, sister and even a "aunty" in Sarafina along with several friends form the Pridelander cubs. Then the night Scar brings in the hyenas after assuming the throne all changes. His father takes him and a few others out of the lands, seperating their families. Mheetu misses his old life and family and even does some pretty foolish things to get it back. Eventually he accepts his new life enough to help in founding the new pride his father carves out for them in a unoccupied land, naming it the Skylands. When the pride expands into a actual kingdom, Mheetu become technical King but opts to have a small council to help him rule as he's passive in nature. He lives the rest of his life with his new pride, a extended family and friends and even starting a family of his own with his wife, happy with what he has.
Tesma
Although I'm pretty sure its been verfied the first drafts had her is a meerkat, I was first introduced to her as a Banded Mongoose. And now I can't unsee it and WILL depict her as a Banded Mongoose in my stories. Anyway, she's the co-leader (alongside her sister) of her Mongoose clan, Little Bone, a very motherly and treating the clan like her extended family, able to organize and reason with them through empathy and personal connection. She can get hooked on the emotional aspect and will struggle with making hard sacrifices but geniuinely does do the best for the Clan and others. She also has a bad tendency of being too sympathetic towards children, she REALLY wants to become a mother one day and ends up becoming a suragant mother to any young one she meets. We'll see her show up with promance in one story so I'm working to have her design nailed down sooner then later. Still needs some work but happy with the progress thus far.
Bhati
A character that was suppose to be friends with Simba, Nala and their other friends in the early drafts of the Lion King script, though some depict her also as a early version/competitor for Zazu. My version won't have her as friends or even really knowing Simba and Nala but she will let's say have a brief interest in Zazu's job. Very intelligent, curious, creative and a little daring along with a voice to not be ignored, she felt a good replacement for him but was sadly denied such a role. But that didn't mean she gave up dreams of grandure, those big ears aren't for show and they lead her to learning some interesting gossip. Such information could lead her and her family into a far better life. And later she used her many skills to come up a with a brilliant plan to keep this perfect life with terrifying results. As you can see Bhati will show up as a important character in a couple stories, her debue being the biggest showing of her character. Unlike Tesma, she's mostly solidified in design and won't be going through many more changes. So enjoy what you get.
Diku
Another of the supposedly cut sisters of Sarabi and in my version one of her younger siblings. Techinically being older then the twin sister but born into the same year, she is often seen following after them, usually aiding then in their antics even if not with the same purpose and passion as them. When not doing that, she is known to stare off and be lost in thought, often in her own mind then interracting with the real world. She talks little but when she does she often makes odd and dreamy comments or questions that are really baffling. She's not stupid just odd, remaining so all her life. Living off her twin sisters, never having a mate and cubs though she does become a good aunt and a gifted story teller. With a little practice and theatrics from Dwala and Jiwe.
Dwala
The last name of a the supposed cut sisters of Sarabi and one of her youngest siblings. She along with her twin, Jiwe, cause all sort shinanigans for their birth pride in their youth, often roping the dreamy Diku into it. Mostly pranks and small bits of chaos, the kind of stuff that frustrates her family and pride but secretly many like that it adds a needed excitement to their lives. They remain as such for many years before they decide to take a serious look at their futures and opt to become preformers, having Diku tell stories while they enhance it by acting out or putting on effects to enhance it. Its how they earn their keep, getting food, place to rest and other treasures (for Jiwe) from prides they preform for. This suites the three nicely and they continue this on for many years until age catches up, and they pass together in a den from from illness, happy in the exploits they reaped.
Tojo
Second of the six most well known semi-canon characters of Simba's generation (those being Tojo, Tama, Chumvi, Kula, Malka and Mheetu), Tojo comes from a comic called "the Orphaned Birds" were he helps Simba with some baby birds to fly. In my version Tojo is a lion prone to getting injured easily and sick almost as often, a pity case that is looked after by the pride as he was left as a infant on their borders with no clue what happened to his family. He's passed about often and although not mistreated is not the most popular of cubs amongst the pride. Deeply longing for a family and very sensitive to others, he takes this and makes it so he not only adopts the few birds but eventually starts extending it to other animals after moving to Skylands and becoming their shaman. For Tojo is skilled with healing and magics of the shaman, becoming invaluable to his pride and the many animals he assists. He evenutally ends up with the pretty little lioness Fedha as a mate, who he helped partially raise and took with when he escaped with Azwel and co. She proves a good assistanct and mother to their children, theirs by blood or by adoption.
Tama
Third of the six most well known semi-canon characters of Simba's generation, she shows up in a comic were she's depicted as good friends with Nala competing with a jealous Simba for her time and attention. My version places her as very similar in personality to Nala but more rebellious, more arrogant and lacking the humility and focus Nala has. She escapes with Azwel, Mheetu, Tojo and Fedha out of the Pridelands the night Scar takes over and genuinely causes a great deal of trouble for everybody including herself after the move. Although she eventually toes the line when the Grass Walls baboons and Azwel make it clear they won't tolerate her actions, its not because she has a change of mind but rather she decided to keep her trouble making and rebelling secret. Thus when older she doesn't listen to Azwel warning of foriegn males outside the pride, marching up to the first one she meets after they move to Sky Valley. The encounter changes her and after she seeks out many a male in secret to explore this new side of things, often stealing from Tojo to avoid any "consequences" of her actions. Eventually Ni's group joins Sky Valley and Tama catches the eye of a handsome, younger male named Cheshi who she finds cute enough for a few romps. But eventually even she can't avoid reality and her actions catch up in the form of a cub, which to her shock Cheshi not only agrees help take the fall as the father, but also proposes becoming her official mate. Tama finally allows herself to fall for and become true to Cheshi alone for the rest of their lives, becoming a huntress and mother, giving up her olds ways for good.
"Sarabi's Mom"
Although no set design for this lady its is common for people to make her look like a clone of her daughter(s). I went a different route, making Ziada having similar colors to her daughter(s) but darker while their father (Dumisha) had very similar physical features, especially in the face. I tried to make them look unique so they don't look like copies of their kids. I also went more unique in story as most make Sarabi the daughter of some pridesister or whose only role is mother and mate to the king. My Ziada is royalty but married into the pride, but instead of settling for mother of the heir(s) or asssistant to the king, she seeks to be more. She more or less handles seeing the pride runs smoothly along with helping plan out all future deicions to see the pride runs equally smoothly going forward. She's very good at her job and balances her husband, who focuses on being protector and seeing Border Guards are run effectively. But as she needs to focus on queenly duties, along with other matters, her children get pushed to the side. Seeing her children more as means to a end then actual individuals. And woe be those who slight her or go against her plans, especially if that one is a child who stepped a toe out of line.
"Nala's Dad"
This varries in depictions going from her being fathers by Scar, some rogue and more recent years a mystery cub depicted in a cave painting from Lion Guard. I took the rogue route, with some Scar like features to make a nod to that idea, naming him Azwel (which is suppose to be a africanized version of "as well" to follwo a theme his son has). I made him lion who is a gentlemen at heart but with the roughness of rouge life, that joined the Pridelands eager for a settled life of marraiage and cubs. He father Nala before divorcing from Sarafina to marry a new lioness named Hasna and have Mheetu. He was the only guard of the pride before opting to become cub sitter instead to spend more time with his children. This is the reason he had access to the cubs when Scar took over, sheparding a few away including his son, taking them to a Grass Walls for a bit. He stayed for a number of years, hunting for the children and looking for a sutible home once its clear he can't return to the Pridelands. Years later when the cubs are teens he makes a home for them in Sky Valley, doing all he can to see to their success. Eventually Ni and group join and they become a official kingdom, Azwel now united with Mheetu's mother, eases into retirement and partial advisor to the new royals. Happy his good work is done.
Chumvi
Fourth of the six most well known semi-canon characters of Simba's generation and seen in the small story "Nala's Dare" alongside Kula and Ni. Some make Chumvi and Kula mates but for me they looked too much like each other to not be siblings. So I made them siblings from the same litter. Chumvi is shown to be a bit proud and rather daring creature so I decided to make him some one whose always looking for thrills. He loves sparing, seeking adventure and doing what is normally daring, this earns him many worried looks from all but his best friend, the little lioness Geche. He becomes one of the three prominat border guards during Scar's reign, well muscled and a great fighter if too bold for his own good. This talent well translates to protecting Ni's group on their travels and eventually Border guard in Sky Valley, married to Geche with three little girl cubs to keep him occupied.
Kula
Fifth of the six most well known semi-canon characters of Simba's generation and seen in the small story "Nala's Dare" alongside Chumvi and Ni. Far more sensible and meek then her brother Chumvi, Kula main forcus is food. She seems to be always hungry, especially after Scar takes over. But then she looses focus of such things when Ni enters the picture. She finds him brave and likey would be handsome if he got cleaned up. Better yet he takes interest and encourages her activity in keeping stores of food, saying she's on her way to being a great huntress. She developes a massive crush and it prompts her to do everything she can to become the best huntress in the pride to one day meet him again and he'd be so impressed he'd take her as mate. She get's her chance when he returns and takes many of the youngsters of the pride with him out of the tyranically ran pridelands. She impresses him not only with her solo hunting but helping instruct and even organizing hunting to see the pride remain fed along the journey. Eventually he returns her affections and they become mates like she wanted. And once in Sky Valley, she serves as a secondary queen while Ni is co-king, becoming lead huntress of Sky Valley Pride.
Malka
Sixth of the six most well known semi-canon characters of Simba's generation and from the comic "Simba's New Brother". Some make Malka from Simba's pride and unrelated to Simba. Most though go my route in making him a prince/cub of a neighboring pride. And then I made him Simba's cousin though he doesn't find this out until after the events of the comic. A rather odd soul who get's lost easily, he's crown prince of the Grassy Peaks pride. He's friendly enough but tends to need guides and sometimes a little oblivious to others. He's a fairly good king and stays on good terms with his pride and even keeps close tabes with with the allied prides, one of the first to open up to the Pridelands after Simba takes over. Sadly this all fall apart when the next generation of royals grow into adulthood, a matter of inheritance splittingt he pride. Malka ends up giving his half of the Pride and land to his aunt, Naanda to be protected from the otehr half of his pride. The otehr half settle for taking their half and little more land up north to forn their own kingdom away from him. Malka thus retires as a broken king, leaving his cousins, Mdogo and Mtoto, to pick up the pieces.
"Nunka"
Based off a plushie that was suppose to be based off "Lion King 2" Nuka though clearly they got many features of his wrong especially the colors. There is many variations of this character but most common are making him Zira's brother or the child of Vitani, even giving him the cut name for Kovu "Nunka" like I did here. My version of this character will make a brief appearence in a one story for a few pages before dissappearing for good. I can't say more then that other then this character does play a important role, for the brief moment of appearence. All else will be left a mystery until the appropriate time.
Tanglemane
A lion that comes from a small story "In Deep Water" which is from the "Hakuna Matata" magazine series. Described as a old, grumpy lion that likely is smart enough to solve a water shortage. After knocking out a rotting tooth the lion becomes far friendlier and helps out with them with their water crisis. There are all sorts of ideas and theroies over this guy, too many to go over. But mine focuses on the fact he use to be from some pride where he had a love and son but then was taken over by two males, killing his son and as his love had died before their take over, had no reason to stay on. He wandered about, not taking good care of himself and taking on the appearence and even feeling far older then he is. He came reside in the cave near Simba's part of the jungle until the cub and his friends helped him. Though not his real name, he goes by Tanglemane (or Tangle for short) cause he genuinely wants to leave as much of his old life behind. He becomes a personal teahcer to Simba, showing him how to track, stalk, hunt, fight and all other lion like things he needs to know that he's certainly not learning from his two friends. And along the way they form a father-son relationship, helping fill in the role that is missing with the death of each of their loved ones. He stays on long enough to see Simba grow into a fine lion, ready to take his real place in the world, before age finally catches up and he dies peacefully one starry night.
Mtoto
The last of the batch and one of the more recent additions to the fandom, Mtoto. He was mentioned in a magazine to be Simba's cousin and people ran with it, including me. And like me many made him one one of the two infant cubs from the comic "Unusual Choir", where we see another of Sarabi's sister's, Fuma, and her mate Kiza, parents ot Mtoto and his littermate, Mdogo. Mtoto is crown prince to the pride, he will become king after Naanda and he is well trained for the role while his brother will take over leading the guard after their father. He's very close to his pride and family and look forward to ruling it, to staying close to his family all through his life and even starting his own one day. Although not close to Simba, he and his brother are too young to remember him when he goes missing, he does help open up interraction with him again when he becomes king. They keep in touch with birds and a handful of visits but mostly focus on interractions within their own pride. Mtoto becomes a good kingafter Naanda retires and leads them through many diffficulties to come through the years.
There, finally done. Yes I know I used character sheet images so I dodn't have to draw most of these lot but meh, easy to cut corners I won't loose sleep over. I think this will be the last time I do this as I don't see myself coming back to this in the future any time soon. SO enjoy and see you when I post more serious work. Tata for now.
