Are you sure that scale bar shouldn't be 3 meters.... those modern adult men are like 4.8 feet tall... And Gigantopithecus was a 3 meter beast.

Yes, I'm sure; it's a 2m bar. The one that I illustrated wasn't the biggest species (it is Gigantopithecus giganteus instead of G. blacki; see September 15th 2008 comment). I drew this a few years back, can't remember which reference I used and from wiki (since at the moment I don't have time to go through the original reference) you will find that G. giganteus is considerably smaller than G. blacki (maybe half the size of G. blacki from wiki). I'm not too obsessed with the exact size of what has been "published" since from what we have is just an estimate from very fragmented materials (that goes for both or all species of Gigantopithecus anyway).

Once again, that doesn't change the fact that those adult, modern men are only 4.8 feet tall. Just change the scale bar to 3m and everything fits perfectly.

I think you are right. The bar should be 3m instead of 2m.

Yea, probably I should change it but since I don't have the drawing anymore so unfortunately it's not going to happen.

If you are referring to the large animal at the back (I assumed, since the word "hull" is usually associated with the body of a boat or a ship, maybe there is another meaning to the word that I'm not aware of...) then the animal is called "Gigantopithecus blackii". I hope that answers what you're looking for

the type of helmet for the head
there is an individual among primates that has a strange outfit as the villain of the series x men

dewlap In reply to leucasaurio [2012-07-05 03:51:50 +0000 UTC]
Sorry but unfortunately I didn't realize there is a villain in x-men named Hull nor seen a "Hull" helmet before (link me to a picture of it or something, I'm interested to see what it actually looks like.).
As for the person with the helmet then it's just some random person dressed up as the juggernaut (not sure why but just is at the time...).

Holy Carp, t must be Juggers! That's his Psi- Helmet! and his arm straps!
This was brilliant. Really cool. Very impressed.

Thanks, it's my manager's idea to have this random character dress up which he thinks would make the drawing more interesting.

were they really that small????

The was suppose to be a quite recent (well not too recent) discovery, that is suppose to be Homo floresiensis (the hobbit)from Indonesia. At the moment scientists are still debating on whether this is natural or whether their miniature size was cause by some kind of abnormal sickness... so I can't really say for sure that is its average or maximum size... yet... it will be quite a slow process to determine the true size of these human forms because at the moment (I think)the Indonesia scientists wouldn't allow scientists from other countries to study these materials...

Cool! It'd be neat if they really were that size...because then you'd wonder what made them so small

Let's see... From left to right, Homo sapiens, Homo erectus, Australopithecus afarensis, Gigantopithecus giganteus, Homo heidelbergensis, Homo sapiens(again...), Homo neanderthalensis and Homo floresiensis. I think thatis what they are suppose to be... I've done them a few years back and I don't remember them too well... I hope I'm spelling them right...
Thanks again for the kind words...

Thanks,
I just try to scale up the jaw fragment found for the animal, so the scale could be quite different in real life...
What I did wasn't that tall, if you looked around, you probably can find some reconstruction that is larger than mine...

Bran-Artworks In reply to dewlap [2008-05-29 03:59:42 +0000 UTC]
But i mean that i have ever imagine Gigantopithecus like an orangutan, you bring it back like it maybe probably looked in life .
π: 0 β©: 1
dewlap In reply to Bran-Artworks [2008-05-29 06:02:24 +0000 UTC]
It's just a possibility that it might look like an orangutan... one day we probably will find more of it...(but I hope it does look like it... so I don't really have to change the original drawing... not that I have the original anyway...

it was just standing on its back legs like most primates from time to time but I quite sure that it will go back to all fours during walking or fast movements... I wasn't trying to imply that it is a biped...

I see... but who knows? maybe it's postcranial gives us a surprise when founded, hehehehe . I really like the "oversized orangutang" look that it has.

dewlap In reply to unlobogris [2008-05-29 00:32:26 +0000 UTC]
Not sure where I've found it but Gigantopithecus blackii is closer related to the orangutan than gorillas...
and I'm glad you like it...

unlobogris In reply to dewlap [2008-06-25 21:39:45 +0000 UTC]
Yep, I've heard about that too, but not all the renditions suggest that showing it "orangutang-like"... they seem to prefer a "gorilla-like" look, due to the size...
π: 0 β©: 1
dewlap In reply to unlobogris [2008-06-26 12:42:01 +0000 UTC]
That is quite true. I'm not sure who is right (since I've only seen some low res photos of the specimen...) but I think from the reference that I read at the time, they(the scientists) said that the jaw fragment that was found looked very similar to the orangutan's...
It is similar in the case of the Muttaburrasaurus. Ever since they found something that resembles a thumb spike (probably not...), scientists have been restoring these animals as iguanodon-like. Even now that under the current classification and studies, the Muttaburrasaurus is found to be closer to Tentonosaurus and Rhabdodon rather than the Iguanodon, unfortunately all the illustrations that I found of Muttaburrasaurus are still based on the Iguanodon...

There's a replica of the Gigantopithecus blackii jaw in my university, and yes, it's similar to orangutangs'
I didn't knew that Mutaburrasaurus was closely related to Tenontosaurus or Rhabdodon than to Iguanodon. I must change my old "Iguanodon-like" Mutaburrasaurus...
