Description
This episode begins with Carter taking part in a test of a new Ranger suit. It's unsuccessful, but I wonder,if it had worked, would Carter have become a new color, and someone else would become red?
The morpher for the new suit is original, and not from GogoV. Last season, when Mike needed a morpher, they used one from Dairanger.
The morpher is too strong for a normal human, and the experiment is locked up.
What happens next is very important. Dana comes into her father's office with a birthday cake. The day would have been her big brother's twentieth birthday. He apparently died in a car accident.
Late that night, the Aquabase is shutting down, and we see the point of view of an ominous unseen character. They have on a wetsuit, and swam here. We get a few shots of the person, it's a male human, around twenty. He steals the morpher.
The next day, Vypra attacks the city. The Rangers go to stop her, and everything seems routine. Then, a portal opens in the ceiling, and from it descends the new Ranger, the Titanium Ranger. He easily bests the Lightspeed Rangers. He reveals his weapon, an axe that converts into a gun, very similar to the old Power Axe. The Rangers retreat, and then we see Diabolico show up to congratulate the Titanium Ranger. It's quite surprising to finally see original footage of one of the demons thst isn't Vypra. There's also some new scenes at the demons' base.
The Titanium Ranger is sent once again to fight the Rangers. The Rangers have some new equipment though, the V-Lancers, with the new weapons, they manage to barely keep the Titanium Ranger at bay. They blast him, causing his visor to open. Captain Mitchell sees his face on the monitor, and orders the Rangers to stand down. Mitchell breaks down, nearly in tears.
The Rangers return to the Aquabase, and question Captain Mitchell. With a shake in his voice, he responds that the Titanium Ranger is his son!

This episode, in retrospect as an adult, is predictable. It's still fun, but the shock from when I was a child is most definitely gone. The Titanium Ranger is an important milestone in Power Rangers, the first American exclusive Ranger, not a variation on an existing costume, not a recolor, but a completely original design. It shows how ambitious the series had become. Oddly, the legacy of the Titanium Ranger doesn't go far. He would appear in the Time Force teamup with Lightspeed, he got a short featurette on the Shout Factory DVD boxset, and the suit showed up in Super Megaforce...with the visor put on wrong. Even so, he stands out because PR would rarely take the time after this to craft a new ranger. Ninja Storm had a brief dream sequence with one of the villains imagining herself as a pink ranger, which was just a digitally recolored blue ranger suit, SPD had the A-Squad rangers, literally put together from recycled parts of other suits. Boom dreamt of bring an orange Ranger, which was a mostly original suit, but with a repainted Space helmet. Jungle Fury had three original Ranger costumes, but they were bizarrely their own characters or something, with the ones who supposedly controlled the powers not morphing... it's really weird. Kind of how the Alien Rangers controlled their Zords, maybe that was the idea?
Anyway, the Titanium Ranger seems like it should have started a tradition of PR exclusive Rangers, but they're actually pretty rare.
The Titanium Ranger's story has a bit of similarity to the Green With Evil episodes, since then, the only antagonistic sixth hero was the first Magna Defender. It's nostalgic in a way to see an evil Ranger.
This is a great start to one of the most fun arcs in Lightspeed.
