Description Final over at my anime account, ~ diamondsketch

The media:

Prismacolor Markers- 80%
Chartpak Markers- Skin tones
Tombow Markers- Greys (NOT recommended)
Stablio color pens

Great erase mechanical pencil- .7mm
pigma micron pens- .3mm and brush
Staedler- .05mm
art gum eraser

This is just a basic tutorial on how to use alcohol based markers. I bought the Tombows not knowing they are water-based and I was disappointed when using them. They can't blend as well as the prismacolors or chartpaks. As a result, the greyish browns on Kenshin and Shishio suffered.

Hope you like this tutorial.

If you're having difficulties with the Tombows. try using watercolor paper. They don't do to hot on markerboard, since they're waterbased, but a really fine-toothed watercolor paper gives good results. They blend way better with that.

Why Bristol Board and not Marker Board? I'm asking because I'm using Canson Marker Paper and am having a really tough time getting the colors to blend the way I want to... hoping you have some insight for me. Appreciate it and thanks!

Its easier to blend for a longer amount of time on bristol because the texture doesnt let the markers ink dry quite as fast, but marker paper is amazing to use to blend, you just have to be quick. Idk if your new to markering or not but if you are try doing some simple drawings and practice coloring them quickly while staying in the lines, then immediately after your done with a line, take the color our blending with and go over it, you cant really wait to long.

Thank you very much for your reply and adice - it is very appreciated!

I have gone to Manga Paper - seems to be a nice blend between the other two types of paper.

This was a very helpful tutorial! Thank you, I just bought some prismacolor markers and you helped me color with them tremendously. I was wondering about the Stablio pens you use though. I went and looked on their site and they have a bunch of different kinds of pens. Which ones do you use?

Great tutorial. I personally find Tombow's to be great for color, but instead of attempting to blend them with a blender marker (as with traditional alcohol based markers), because they are water soluble I use water to blend them, which lends an almost watercolor like feel to the piece. (Maybe I should make a tutorial about that O_o)

Awesome! This was very helpful [and easy to understand].

I have a question: do you by any chance know if COPIC markers are more or less expensive than Prismacolors, or are they pretty much in the same pricerange of a COPIC? Like the individual cost of one?

Omigosh! This is like the first tutorial I seen on prismas.. and you used a totally Omigosh scene from the Rurouni Kenshin anime. Lol. Your picture came out totally wicked, btw, (I gawk at its awesomeness) and I really like your simple star-fire way of explaining how to use prisma markers. Heh. I planned on trying them out some time anyways so this is a great tutorial for someone of my stature. Anyways, great job!
