Name: Bruke Gallstone
Age: 32
Height: 7'7"
Weight: 309 lbs.
Profile: 7 years ago, Bruke used to be ranked 2nd in the heavyweight boxing division, and had just proposed to the love of his life, Danielle. But in a series of events, Bruke made a pact with the Grim Reaper to save his dying love, only to be seconds late. In the past 7 years, he's been looking for people strong enough to kill him, since the curse doesn't let him commit suicide and has somehow granted him additional lives as well as immortality. He has "died" 8 times so far and each subsequent death only makes his body more grotesque and harder to kill and it has gotten to the point that no one seems capable of killing him. That is, until the Nightmare Tournament. He hopes that this will be the last time he dies.
Personality: As of present, Bruke is a mellow, depressed fellow who occasionally grieves for Danielle and regrets his mistakes. And being responsible for a lot of people's deaths, he's gotten to appreciate life a little more than most killers would consider, but he still yearns for his own death in turn.
He's also considerably jaded and sometimes apathetic, not seemingly excited over anything else other than the possibility of him dying.
Otherwise, he's okay to be around with, even if he doesn't talk much and a little freaky-looking. He's especially concerned when it comes to innocent people (the ones who would never kill anyone for fun or profit.)
Strengths: He has a resilient body and will not die easily from a variety of attacks. His curse allows him to revert his body back to its original, uninjured form while unwillingly inflicting the same amount and kind of damage he received to the person who originally inflicted said damage.
Bruke doesn't physically do this, but rather the transferral of damage appears in the form of shadowy, ephemeral streams shooting out of his wounds and striking his opponent - this is unavoidable and unblockable.
Weaknesses: Bruke is oddly more vulnerable to melee attacks than anything else. Also, the transferal of damage doesn't occur immediately - it has a period of 30 minutes, starting from the first injury Bruke receives. This is to accumulate any damage done to him and dish it back with greater efficiency. If his body is "destroyed" before 30 minutes are up, the curse is dispelled and Bruke dies, leaving his opponent unscathed.
On a sidenote, Bruke will not fight anyone he believes isn't strong enough to kill him and will try to avoid fights if possible. To anyone else, he will relay his weaknesses to give them a fighting chance and tell them how much time they have left to kill him. He'll also stay still or at least adopt a position where he'll get hurt the most.
On another sidenote, due to his apathy, he is rarely curious and thus doesn't have much knowledge about most things. He could be easily controlled or manipulated if swayed enough, though it doesn't make it any easier to kill him or to get him to kill someone actively.

Thanks. I've never drawn an obese boxer before and this was as good of a time as any.

I wouldn't blame you; if I was an outsider and I saw only the reference pic for Bruke's context, I would've never thought he was suicidal and sympathetic - heck, I dunno why I made him look so smug or normal in his ref pic. XD
Amazing? XD Your coloring was probably the best thing here - I wish I had more time to flesh out Bruke's personality and make him interact more with Nightmare and himself. I mean, I made Nightmare a lot more impatient and testy here than most character auditions do because of time constraints. XD Maybe he's just tired of messing other people's dramas.

Thanks! It'd definitely be an interesting fight to see an emotionally unstable, cunning shapeshifter clash with a depressed, suicidal, cursed and mutated boxer.
They certainly have a few things in commons, like not wanting the powers they have with them and going through some unwarranted transformations.
But yeah, hope we get in and go far in the tourney!

Awwww. Bruke's story it's actually, sadder than i could realize at first sight; I can imagine any situation where you made an extraordinary effort to make things go better, and then, they suddenly start going very very bad, despite of what you've sacrificed. That makes Bruke a guy you want to see winning, but in some way winning this time means also losing in other way, is a delightful dilemma i want to see you developing in the tournament, good luck!.

Thanks for your comment!
I never thought of it that way; I just thought of the situation where things would have been better if he hadn't done any extraordinary effort: like you see in some TV shows where there's a prediction that someone's gonna die, and the other person tries to stop the prediction, but in the end, he makes the prediction come true because he tried to do something about it.
Kind of a tragic irony, which I haven't done before. And as for winning, well, he wins if he loses because he dies and if he wins, he loses because he doesn't die. I just wanted to make a character who I feel better for if he lost.
Thanks for rooting for my guy, and I'm definitely rooting for yours too!

Heh, I know you didn't meant it that way, it's just that I had that impression. About Clementine, the thing with her, it's about carrying pain inside of you, the matter in this case is that she has to bear with what she has done before, and even if she could get rid of that suffering she no longer has anyone to be with, family, friends, or a someone she could grow old with. About killing or not killing other people, it's more like the principle to no hurting anybody: They can feel pain as you do, and as you don't like feeling that way, the others doesn't either. In this case, she remember what is to live happyly, and she parts from the guessing of that everyone else want to live, even if she doesn't. XD.

Ah, I see.
I guess that's where our characters are different: Bruke's pain is mostly just guilt and regret, just internal suffering at worst. Though he does have people he could be with, he chooses not to, since he's been branded as a killer and doesn't want to bring anyone trouble, so he's always alone.
Otherwise, he's a bit like Clementine: they're people who feel like they don't belong in the world anymore because of what they've become.

As i've seen there are many characters in the constest that feels the same way. It might have become some kind of cliche, but anyway is a type of character i like to see. Actually, i have some tales i wrote or drawed, where the characters feels alienated in some way or another, as a consequence of their acts or simply because they were born different. Curiously that makes them more human, don't you think?

DigiDayDreamer In reply to Cesar-fps [2008-08-22 05:40:36 +0000 UTC]
I do agree about the differences making them more human. I guess that's the price they pay for nonconformity or uniqueness. Even if it seems cliche, I think it's a justified cliche in this case. I mean, could you see an ordinary person surviving in this kind of contest of fighting and survival? Or maybe just appealing to people very much? Alienation is a universal feeling, that I can say.

well dam, how would Nairb be able to fight HIM? Well, maybe just insulting his grotesque shape and such. And because Narib can't "take" any physical damage, I'm pretty sure the fight would go on for a LOOOOOOng time.....which gives your guy the edge ...

DigiDayDreamer In reply to MindOfGenius [2008-08-22 02:16:47 +0000 UTC]
Lol, Nairb would totally win if it came down to verbal abuse.
And you make a good point about our fight possibly going for a long while, but I think your guy would come up with something creative against mine, who's just plain predictable, if not deadly by himself. He'd probably take over Bruke anyway. XD
