Description
Ported to OBJ from the fan created model made for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games. Based on the original fanon design by Eric "Jackill" Kristiansen as first published with his Michael Adam Class Blueprints and again in his Jackill's Starfleet Reference Manual Volume III. Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.
Also known as the Adam class for short and named for one of the early Terran space pioneers (you can look him up on the Internet), Michael Adam was the original "panhandle" single warped engined scout class of the Excelsior generation of Federation Starfleet starships. As with its TOS/TAS era predecessors Hermes and Nelson, it was essentially Loki with all of its heavy weapons removed save for two photon torpedo tubes so it would retain a minimal heavy weapons capability (given past experiences with fleet scouts; these also doubled as probe launchers BTW), and with not only the latest ELINT/ECM/ECCM suite installed in their place but the added ability to accept extra sensor and scanner packages attached to reinforced mounts on top and bottom of its single warp engine nacelle. This electronics package option capability had first been experimented with in various ways on various fleet scout class upgrades and individual ships during the TMP era, but with Michael Adam this was class standard right out of the yard. The above image shows an early post-TMP era SME993/6A omnidirectional sensor array mounted in the top position on the warp engine nacelle and a early post-TMP era SDA37/4A directed sensor array mounted underneath. Again, these could be swapped out and replaced with other electronics packages as mission needs required. The fact that Michael Adam had a "shorty" transwarp engine instead of the standard long model did not hurt it as much as it did Loki, since it didn't need as much power to function in its designed role and that saved power translated into a slightly larger operational radius. As with Loki Starfleet kept these on its borders for the farthest possible forward deployments, while older fleet scout classes were pulled back and reassigned to other duties within Federation space. Michael Adam remained in service with the rest of the Excelsior generation through the end of the post-TMP era and all the way through the TNG/DS9/VOY era, with periodic refits and upgrade to keep both them and their special electronics as up-to-date as possible. At last report Starfleet was planning on keeping all surviving members of the class in service for as long as they remained capable of doing their jobs.
This is fanon, sadly, but right now it's the only thing I've got to fill a rather gaping hole in the Franchise official and licensed lineups for Excelsior generation starship classes. I'll be happy to replace it with the official one or even a licensed one provided either comes along and I'm aware of it. Until then, and as it's the only candidate available right now, I'm going with Michael Adam as the Excelsior generation "panhandle" fleet scout class.
Live long and prosper.
