Description

Ported to OBJ from the fan-created model made for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games.  Original Larson TOS and TMP era designs by Forest Brown and Dana Knutson for FASA Corporation's various Franchise-licensed gaming products back in the day.  The Leyte class designation for the TMP upgraded form is my own and comes from my own Federation Fleet Review (FFR).  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

Given the success of the Larson class destroyer leader during the TOS/TAS era, there was little doubt about it being upgraded for the TMP era, and it was lucky enough to be one of those chosen early on to receive the full LN-64 based upgrade and refit.  It came out much the better for it, now that it had a warp engine powerful enough to let it run above warp 6 without the danger of wormholing (a common problem with all TOS era "panhandles"), and it also got the significantly beefed-up TMP era Class I full phaser battery to boot.  This is sometimes known as the Leyte class upgrade in order to distingush it from the original TOS form of Larson, since Leyte (NCC-4317) was the first Larson pulled from service and rebuilt to the LN-64 standard.  I also note that there were several variations on the Leyte refit by different Feddie shipyards, with the main differences being where they repositioned Larson's dual photon torpedoes and small shuttle bay, as well as in what manner they did so (to account for all of those fannish TMP Larson variants - ed).  All surviving Larsons save for the class ship herself (see NOTE below) got the Leyte upgrade in some form and continued to serve as Starfleet destroyer leaders once they returned to service.  They would remain active with Starfleet for the rest of the TMP era.

This is a semi-canon design, as it was created under Franchise license for the FASA gaming canon.  How you use it (or even if) is up to you.

Live long and prosper.

NOTE - The above image shows Larson (NCC-4300) as having received a Leyte refit, although in my thread of the Trek multiverse this never happened.  She was going to get it and had even been taken out of service for it, but upon being put in spacedock and given a thorough pre-ugrade inspection she was found to be in worse shape than at first believed, and so her Leyte refit was cancelled.  She would have been scrapped save for a successful grass roots effort to save her, and thus she survives into the TNG/DS9/VOY era as one of the few examples of a TOS/TAS era Feddie museum ship.
