I'm not going to repeat here everything I wrote about the TMP era Saladin for the sake of Hermes. If you want to know what it was, follow the link below:
This of course is the TMP era upgraded version of Starfleet's TOS era Hermes class scout. Getting the full LN-64 linear warp upgrade and associated rebuilding was a major deal with Hermes, which had always been regarded as woefully underarmed. As part of the conversion process Hermes got a TMP era Saladin style full phaser battery for defensive purposes, given that by this time the Klingons were being openly hostile towards the Federation. That's six dual phaser banks BTW -- primary hull top and bottom fore, port, and starboard. She still didn't get photon torpedoes; however, in my thread of the Trek multiverse (FFR) the TMP era Hermes also got a new type of probe launcher that was also designed to double as a drone missile launcher (an SFB thing, go look it up) and thus give Hermes a limited heavy weapon capability -- again entirely for self-defense. The number of drones Hermes could carry was small compared to other starships and given how much of her internals were given over to fitting her extensive sensor, scanner, and electronic warfare equipment, but as I'm sure you're aware some is better than none -- and as it turned out (fortunately), rare were the occasions that a Hermes was called upon to use them.
I modded this myself from the Empires at War Saladin model, following Mr. Schmidt's drawing in SFP especially with regards to the extra sensor mounts both top and bottom on the primary hull. You can do the same should you ever get your hands on a TMP era Hermes model.
Live long and prosper!
