Description
Ported to OBJ from the low poly fan created model made for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games. Model created by Lord Schtupp (John Maddock) per the included README file. Derived from the original TMP-era Akula design created by Taldren Studios for both the Klingon Academy (KA) and Starfleet Academy (SFC) video game series, and also featured in other Franchise licensed games such as Shattered Universe and Star Trek: Legacy. Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.
There are two different starship classes going by the name of Akula in the classic period of the Trek multiverse. The one I'm focusing on here is the Akula class destroyer, which is not to be confused with the fanon TMP-era Akula class perimeter action ship (SOSF2). They look very different for starters. Anyway, the Akula class destroyer is essentially Saladin (SFTM) with a second warp engine mounted directly above the first one on top of the primary hull, thus solving a lot of Saladin's warp engine related issues and making it a far better performer all around.
I'm including this entry with my TOS era Feddies for all of you who grew up in the 1990s and 2000s, and are more familiar with this as you standard Feddie destroyer than the SFTM Saladin, FASA Larson, and so on. That said, going with the Akula class destroyer in TOS form causes lots of continuity issues if you try to make it work with all the other destroyers and heavy destroyers that were created under license before it came along in the history of the Trek universe, especially since almost every Feddie destroyer class we're talking about is semi-canon. There's Saladin from ye hoary olde SFTM, the multiple FASA regular and heavy destroyers (Baker, Charger, Durrett, Larson, Wilkerson, etc.), and so on. What you do with all of this and how you make Akula work with it depends on how you define your particular thread of the Trek multiverse. For my part I kept the video game Akula as a TMP era starship class per the original gaming materials, but there are those fans who insist on it having its origins in the TOS era. They usually bring it right at the start of the TOS era and revise (or selectively junk) everything else accordingly. It would work better as a second or even third wave early TOS era design insofar as fitting in with everything else if that's the way you're going to go, but that's strictly my opinion and you know how, uhmmm, "insistent" some Trek fans can be. (chuckle). Again, Trek is a multiverse. Whatever works for you. If you want a TOS era Akula from the Trek video games in your TOS era Feddie Starfleet, then include it, make it work for you, and more power to you I say. XD
Live long and propser!
