Description

NOTE - This is a replacement image (and entry) of a different set of models for this subject than the ones I had up before.

--------------------

Ported to OBJ and slightly modified by me from the stock model included with Silent Hunter 4 (SH4) by Ubisoft.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

The two ships of the Ise class, Ise and Hyuga (pronounced EE-say and HAI-oo-gah'), were leftovers from World War I that were extensively rebuilt and modernized during the interwar period and subsequently saw action during World War II with the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN).  They were the successors to the Fuso class and were fairly similar both in layout and main armament (twelve 14-inch main guns in six dual turrets), save for two major differences.  First, the arrangement of the amidships pair of main gun turrets was changed in order to improve their firing arcs.  Second, brand new 140mm fast-firing (5.5 inch) secondary guns were installed instead of the older slower-firing 152mm (6 inch) guns used on Fuso, reportedly due to shell weight and handling issues.  Their original relatively clean lines were significantly altered during their 1934-36 modernizations into the way they would appear during World War II, with new tripod masts and the same stacked-up "pagoda" style superstructures common to many refitted older IJN capital ships during this time.  They saw no real action until late in the war, and after both had already been converted to hybrid battleship-carriers (BBV) in order to help make up for IJN fleet carrier losses at the Battle of Midway in 1943.  They never carried out their new function due to the growing lack of qualified IJN pilots, and both wound up being used as decoys in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in 1944 in order to help lure Admiral "Bull" Halsey's carriers away from the Philippines and open the way for the real IJN attack from a different direction.  This diversionary action ended in what is known today as the Battle of Cape Engano, during which both Ise and Hyuga were badly damaged but not sunk, thanks to their battleship-level armor protection.  Both managed to limp back to Japan and were turned into AA battery ships to help defend Japan herself against American bombing, and it was in this role that both were finally sunk:  Hyuga on 24 July 1945 and Ise four days later on 28 July.  Both were later salvaged and scrapped after the war.  To find out more about the Ise class, follow the link below:

This is a straight port of the game stock model, with the only change by me being to darken the textures so this would better match up with the majority of other IJN warship models I have posted in my C21VN World War II gallery.

While I am no longer making my OBJ ports of Silent Hunter series models available for public download, you can get this yourself in one of two ways.  You can extract it piecemeal from the game data using the free SKWAS/s3ditor model utility and rebuild it in your preferred 3D modeling software, or you can rip it directly from the game after installing any necessary mods or mod packs noted above using any good 3D model ripper (3D Ripper DX or NinjaRipper recommended).

If you don't want to go that route, then there are excellent retail quality alternatives out there that are absolutely free.  Usio no Ibuki made excellent individual models of both Ise and Hyuga in both the original and BBV converted forms for Microsoft's Flight SImulator series of games.  These are the same models I used to feature here at C21VN before I replaced them with the Silent Hunter versions.  They've been around for quite a while now and are available on most of the better Flight Simulator series fan mod and add-on sites, so all it takes to find them is a simple Internet search with the keywords "Usio no Ibuki" (the full name) and either Ise or Hyuga.  They also port very well to OBJ using the free ModelConverterX utility, although I will warn you in advance of two things.  First, there are multiple layers of quality due to there being three different resolutions of models, each nested inside the other (and necessary for those games for distance viewing purposes).  You'll have to sort through these and delete any layers you don't need or want in your preferred 3D software.  Second, it is difficult to make custom textures for these model due to the way he built them.  Not impossible, just difficult.  Hey, they're freebies and beggars can't be choosers, right?  Right. (wink)

ASIDE - Ise is a premium Tier VI battleship in the Japanese tech tree in World of Warships (WoW)by Lesta Studios.  The preceding Fuso is the stock Tier VI offering.  She was first offered in 2021 in her late war BBV form, which was a first for WoW and makes her a rather unique offering in the game.  I'll let you chase down the WoW player reviews yourself.
