Description
NOTE - This is a replacement image (and entry) of higher quality models than the one I had up before.
--------------------
Ported to OBJ with some modifications and/or retexturing from the stock model included with the game Silent Hunter 3 (SH3) by Ubisoft. Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.
The Admiral Hipper class heavy cruisers (Ger. schwerer kreuzer) of the Nazi German Reichkriegsmarine (RKM) were considered among the best of the war in any nation's navy. They had everything one would want in one hull on a European heavy cruiser in the World War II era. If they had a failing, it was that their propulsion machinery was new and possibly too overly complicated for its own good. The building of these officially kicked off the second wave of German naval rearmament in 1935, once Hitler had formally repudiated the Versailles Treaty (and its military limitations) and signed the Anglo-German Naval Accord - which while appearing to limit the Germans actually "officially" encouraged them to build a modern navy as fast as their shipyards could handle (one of Hitler's smarter plays). As I said the Hippers led that second wave of German naval construction, and of the five planned three were finished in time for the war: Admiral Hipper (the class ship), Blucher (the shortest lived one), and Prinz Eugen - the longest lived one and the largest Reichkriegsmarine warship to survive the war still afloat and ready to sail. She was taken by the Americans as a war prize and eventually expended as a test ship as part of the Bikini Atoll atomic bomb test in December 1946. Her partially submerged remains can still be seen there today. To find out more about the colorful history of the Admiral Hipper class, follow the link below:

The SH3 Hipper model may be old by today's ultra-high poly standards but it's still very good, and is hard to beat if you just need one for quick warship posing, fleet wargaming or video game action, a really nice tabletop display model for one of your 3D character posing projects, and so on. Given the time that's passed since it was first released there's been more than a few custom texture sets made for it, in addition to several minor mods. There are game stock or fan custom textures available for all five members of the class - Admiral Hipper, Blucher, Prinz Eugen, Seydlitz, and Lutzow - with sometimes multiple textures available for different class members at different points of the war. Four different custom versions of the SH3 Hipper from among the many available (or possible) are pictured above. At the upper left is the game stock Prinz Eugen in her Bismarck style Baltic camouflage, and right next to her is Prinz Eugen again from later in the war in a normal Baltic paint scheme courtesy of the Battle for the Baltic fan mod for SH4. The last two are of Admiral Hipper herself - one in a plain wartime paint scheme from Living Silent Hunter 3 2015, and then a modded and custom textured model (by myself) at the lower right meant to depict Hipper as she was she first entered service, complete with straight bow and flat funnel cap.
While I am no longer making any of my Silent Hunter series OBJ ports available for public download, you'll be happy to know that someone else's rip of the somewhat higher quality one from SH5 is available and can be downloaded from the Pack 3D website. BTW the SH5 version is one I like myself and have used in some of my own personal projects. Here's the link:

They also have someone else's rip of the World of Warships version of Hipper, which like the stock SH3 and SH5 models is of her early wartime configuration, complete with Atlantic clipper bow and raked funnel cap. Be advised that you're going to need some stout 3D software to handle it due to its ultra-high poly count. Here's the link:

You will have to mod and/or retexture either model if you want to depict either Hipper or any other member of the class in other configurations (wartime upgrades, the once-planned "super light cruiser" conversions, etc.). Good luck!
For non-profit, non-commercial use only.
ASIDE - Admiral Hipper is the stock Tier VII cruiser in the German tech tree in World of Warships by Lesta Studios. It retains its Tier VII ranking for the WoW Legends lineup.
TRIVIA - The Hipper class were sometimes mistaken for Bismarck class battleships due to their visual similarites. One of the most extreme examples of this happened postwar, when the Aurora plastic model company issued a model of Bismarck that was actually of a Hipper stretched and considerably widened to match Bismarck's physical dimensions. Yes, it's absolutely true! I've had the model kit and I can vouch for this rather glaring mistake on Aurora's part. You don't believe me? Get some pictures or if you can the actual kit and compare it to the plans for both Bismarck and Hipper. See? I told you so. ^_^
