TS Hanseatic was an appreciated relic from a bygone age in her time:  an old-fashioned cruise ship operating in a more modern era that was beloved by both her passengers and crews over the years.  Also known as the first Hanseatic, the first of three cruise ships to bear that name, she was built for the Canadian Pacific Line in the early 1930s as a three-stack ocean liner and began life under the name Empress of Japan.  She was subsequently renamed Empress of Scotland in 1942 for political reasons (*cough* World War II *cough*), and her name was changed again to Hanseatic in 1959 when she was purchased for use by the Hamburg Atlantik Line of West Germany in 1959.  She was substantially rebuilt at this time, being transformed into a more graceful-looking two-funneled liner and with the space saved used to add an onboard swimming pool.  She was one of Hamburk Atlantik's most popular ocean liners at the time but faced increasing competition in intercontinental travel, as did all other ocean liners, from the rise of affordabel transcontinental passenger jet service.  In 1966 Hanseatic was badly damaged by an onboard fire while in port at New York, and upon examination her owners deemed the damage too extensive and expensive to repair.  Another ocean liner was obtained to replace her, the former MS Shalom, which became the second Hanseatic.  As for the first Hanseatic, the badly damaged line was later towed to Hamburg and scrapped.  For more information on the former first Hanseatic ocean liner from the 1950s and 1960s, follow the links below:

This is a straight port with no changes by me.  It's a beautiful model, and all of you know the CG talents of Mr. Welker by now.  I'm also glad I gave him the pole position in this last batch of downloadable 3D ship models I intend to bring you as part of my online Century 21 Virtual Navy collection (C21VN).  I hope you will use his Hanseatic model well, and not abuse it for any reason.

This is not my model.  All I did was port it to OBJ for you.  Please credit Erwin Welker as the original creator if you use this in any of your own 3D projects.  You do not have to credit me for my part.
