COMMENTS
In the original McCoy brought all of his hunting and camping gear with him and dumped it in Spock's quarters before he began talking with him. "Okay, I'm ready ...." Spock in comparison had only a small green bag per the original short story text. As the scene closes, Spock picks up almost all of McCoy's gear along with his bag so the good doctor won't have to carry as heavy a load as when he came in there. I altered the scene and the dialog so I wouldn't have to mess with posing either McCoy's gear or Spock's small green bag. I'm also making a further simplification for easier posing purposes in that Spock intends to employ both his early Vulcan and later Starfleet survival training and live entirely off the land. That's why he doesn't need anything in my STNV adaptation.
... unless by chance or misfortune I become directly involved. - With the most memorable occasion of that happening being TOS "Requiem for Metheuselah."
Remember how bad yours [your first command] went? - Who can forget who's seen TOS "The Galileo Seven?" Sue only lost one member of her team (STNV "Marginal Existence"). Spock in comparison lost three, along with his shuttle, although he did act methodically and at the end brilliantly in order to save himself and his surviving team members. That said, Spock's subsequent point about Kirk's reaction is still valid. XD
I have no need ... - Looks like our first commenter on the previous page may have been more right than he first guessed.
