I have been waiting ever since I started producing STNV to have this moment happen between Kirk and Sue, and now I finally get to do it! XD It was always part of the plan for Sue's character as I originally conceived her. Like I said, all I needed was right opportunity to bring this out. This is what Sue was really talking about earlier when she told the others, "Forewarned is forearmed."

Of course the connection between Lt. Helen Noel from TOS "Dagger of the Mind" and Helen Johannsen from TOS "The Menagerie" (Part 1) is conjecture, albeit a probable one, and you can go look up elsewhere as to why. Most TOS or classic Trek fans take it as red even though it has yet to be officially confirmed in canon. It certainly makes for a lot of fun Trek storytelling possibilities, though ... such as what happens here in this tale.

This is the second time in STNV where some of Kirk's past chickens come home to roost. The first was in the previous episode, "Surprise."
