I did the barest of outlines regarding the dinner and visit Kirk and Nurse Kelly had but in the end decided to jettison most of it as I felt it distracted too much from the main story in this tale.  I took the barest of essentials from that and transferred them to this later scene instead -- which continues on the next page BTW.  Once it's done then that will hopefully be my last major intrusion before the end into the original material.  We'll see.  FYI this scene was always part of my original plans for adapting "The Hunting" for STNV, and that include the dialogue about the restaurant food too.

My background set for the major inhabited settlement on Rhinegelt is my XPS port of the CounterStrike: Source (CSS) fan-created game map "cs_aurora," a sci-fi set inspired by the planet Aurora as it is depicted in several of the sci-fi novels of the late Isaac Asimov.  I used one of its interior locations previously in STNV "Surprise!" but this time I'm using one of its exterior locations.  It's a good general purpose set for sci-fi tales, so don't be surprised if you see me use it again someday.

I've got a hopper ride to the campsite ... - Where Lt. Morgan and Sue's other friends are waiting for her as part of Morgan's all-female shore leave camping party, as established earlier in this tale

... you've got your starship to get back to - Both literally and figuratively, if you remember Kirk's words from TOS "The Naked Time."  What was it he said regarding the figurative sense?  Something like, "I give, she takes, she won't let me live my life.  I have a beautiful yeoman.  Have you noticed her[, Spock]?  You're allowed to notice.  The captain's not permitted."  That also ties in with Sue's comment about Kirk being well behaved on their dinner date given his reputation as a ladies' man, as McCoy insisted he be earlier in this episode.

This is an important crossover moment for Nurse Susan Kelly in STNV as she states herself.  She's now officially part of the "in group" among the Enterprise senior officers.  It's taken Sue a while to get there even after her transfer to replace Nurse Chapel prior to the start of STNV, who as you might recall left to go earn her doctorate in space medicine (per TMP), but she's finally there.  The fact that Kirk lets her call him by his first name and she letting him do the same is as sure a sign of this as any.
