I am not doing this for my father. I am doing it for me. - This is my own addition to the story. Spock's father Sarek was always on him about being a true Vulcan, as we see time and again in many of his past appearances and with TOS "Journey to Babel" and TAS "Yesteryear" being the two best examples there. Sarek could have used Spock's not completing the mok farr against him, but that would not have been logical. Spock made his choice to leave Vulcan for Starfleet and Sarek respected it even though he didn't agree with it at all. Given that he had left Vulcan he could not have completed the mok farr save by other means. Perhaps it was Spock's humanity that caused him to forget it, eh? Once he was reminded of it not being done, though, he's gone about finding a way to get it done as only a Vulcan would. I know some of us humans have gone through similar situations, wherein we do something not because we have to but because we feel it's necessary for us. Know what I mean?

Good night, Spock - Good night, John-boy. A little Waltons reference there, for those of you who remember that TV show. XD
