Finally! I'm done with the owltiger! What a pain to pose! ^_^
I've altered this somewhat from the original short story. In that McCoy was on a small hill some distance away, Spock managed to break the meld on his own, and McCoy ran down the hill to offer help but stopped once he saw Spock in full bestial mode. My changes for my STNV web comic adaptation are partly for dramatic effect and partly given the canned sets and models I'm using to visualize this.
Have you ever seen two cats of either gender hissing and growling at each other to sort out which one is the alpha? They only go after each other when that doesn't work (neither backs down at the growl stage), but it always starts this way. Take it from someone who's been a cat lover for decades. The owltiger backed down given its own memory of the brief fight and mind meld Spock used to overpower it, but it didn't cower down. That wouldn't be ... cat-tish? (wink) It had to have one last growl for feline macho-ness and then took off, knowing better than to tangle with Spock anymore. As for Spock, well ... we'll let the scene continue on the next page. XD
