Description

Ported to OBJ from the original low-poly model created by Atrahasis and repainted with his own custom Trek TOS era textures for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series.  Original design created for AMT Corporation by Matthew Jeffries.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

I TOLD you classic Trek fans had embraced AMT's Leif Ericsson with enthusiasm over the years.  Now do you believe me?

For those of you who include the Leif in your own threads of the Trek multiverse and per my old Federation Spaceflight Chronology (FSC), this is a survivor of the Earth-Kzin Wars (TAS "The Slaver Weapon") that was bought for preservation after the Leifs left service.  In FSC Leif became the DY-X, the last and best in the Earth spacecraft design line that first started with the DY-100 back in the day (TOS "Space Seed"). The DY-X served as the backbone of the United Earth space forces during the third and fourth of the Earth-Kzin Wars, both of which humanity won and with the DY-X credited as playing a major part in their utimate outcomes.  Eventually the DY-X became obsolete in the years following the end of the Earth-Kzin wars and most of them were demilitarized and sold off.  One of those survivors was eventually located and purchased by the Starfleet Association in the TOS/TAS era, a non-profit civilian group dedicated to the preservation of historically significant starship types.  It was fully restored with only minor concessions to modern technology, such as compact warp engines hidden inside its original engine fairings, and eventually returned to the spaceways as a fully operational museum ship.  This TOS/TAS era rebuild museum ship version of Leif is the one depicted above.

This is fanon, as is any current fan take to incorporate AMT's Leif Ericsson into the Trek multiverse until and unless the Franchise says otherwise.  Whether or not you accept it for your own thread(s) of the Trek multiverse is up to you.

Live long and prosper.

TRIVIA 1 - The "A" in the hull registry number stands for Antique.  It's a special Federation hull number, just like the special license plates for antique cars used in many locales.

TRIVIA 2 - A modified Leif Ericsson was used as the ship of the Orion merchant Zaminhon in the fan-produced Star Trek Continues (STC) episode "Lolani," which many still consider to be one of its best episodes.  That still doesn't make the good ol' Leif canon or even semi-canon (STC wasn't a Franchise licensed or sanctioned production), but at least we Trek fans finally got to see a Leif used in a proper Trek story.  Hey - you take what you can get, right?
