The Landing Craft Infantry boat, or "Elsie boat" (read the initials "L-CI" as a two-syllable word), or more properly the LCI(L) in Navy terminology (Landing Craft Infantry Large) was one of the mainstay Allied assault craft of World War II. It was a joint development venture between the United States Navy (USN) and the British Royal Navy (BRN/RN or Royal Navy for short), based on an earlier Royal Navy proposal for a "giant raiding craft" that could deliver 200 fully armed troops for hit-and-run raids on enemy shore installations and the like. These wound up being the backbone of what Allied naval commanders nicknamed the "Waterbug Navy," coming from how the surface of the ocean looked whenever an amphibious assault was taking place with all of the various landing craft gathered together and moving on it. The LCI-351 series was the second official production variation on the original design so called because "351" was the number assigned to the first USN LCI built to this design. The main differences from the original were that the LCI 351 design was somewhat larger and had a tall round centrally mounted conning tower (or angled in the case of the "G" series) instead of the original squat square one. They proved very successful and were used by the Allies in all theaters of the war from 1942 onward, with Operation Torch (the invasion of North Africa) being their first major deployment. There were also a number of unique wartime variants produced based on the original LCI 351 hull for various purposes. Most of them were scrapped within two years of the war's end, although a small handful saw service in the Korean War a few years later. Only a mere handful survive today in various conditions. These are straight ports with no changes by me. Four different models are included - one each of an LCI-1 350, an LCI-351, an LCI-G 1D, and a LCI-G 351d.
These are not my models. All I did was port the to OBJ for you. Please credit Pen32Win as the original author if you use any or all of these in your own 3D projects. You do not have to credit me for my part.
For non-profit, non-commercial use only.
NOTE - The LCI 691 series was a modified version of the LCI 351 series with a large bow door instead of two side ramps for disembarking its troops. This model could probably be modded appropriately, and I for one would not object to anyone who does.
ASIDE - If you're looking for the version most often used by the British Royal Navy (BRN) and the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), follow the link below:
