Description
SPECIAL PEARL HARBOR DAY 2021 POST!
NOTE - This is a replacement image (and entry) of higher quality models than the ones I had up before.
--------------------
Ported to OBJ and further modified from the Pennsylvania class battleship models present in both Silent Huniter 4 - Wolves of the Pacific (SH4) and Battlestations Pacific (BSP). The SH4 prewar mod is by moltke2005, while the BSP post-Pearl refit mod is by me. Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.
USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) was the lead ship of her class of United States Navy (USN) battleships and saw action in both World Wars. She was basically a tweaked Nevada, with four triple 14-inch main gun turrrets instead of the 3-2-2-3 superfiring duals over triples arrangement used with Nevada and a standard rounded stern instead of Nevada's unique notched one. She was also the sister ship of the ill-fated Arizona, but she escaped the Pearl Harbor raid with no damage worth mentioning because she had been drydocked for refitting at the time. Because of that she was immediately put back in action as she was to make up for the other USN battleships sunk at the time, and when it finally came time for her wartime refit much later it was not nearly as extensive as what was done with the victims of Pearl Harbor. Among her many World War II exploits was being part of the USN battle line at the Battle of Surigaro Strait in 1944, the very last "crossing the T" surface naval action involving capital warships of the 20th century - although her age, slowness, and lack of modern gunnery radar prevented her from even getting off a single salvo at the attacking Japanese fleet. Not long after at the Battle of Okinawa she took a torpedo up her stern which crippled her propulsion and it was never fully repaired due to the war ending not long after. Given her age and condition she was reassigned as a target ship for the Operation Crossroads atomic bomb test at Bikini Atoll in 1946, and only given sufficient repairs for her to be towed there. She survived both blasts but was pretty much rendered unusable in the process, and after studies were done on her contaminated hull she was eventually sunk in deep water off of Kwajalein Atoll in 1948. These are tweaked ports first by moltke2005 and then by myself in turn. The Blazing Angels series of games, also by Ubisoft, comes with a fairly decent Arizona waterline model that upon closer inspection turns out to be modded version of the SH4 New Mexico. Speaking of which, moltke2005 took the game stock New Mexico and retrograded it so it could properly represent the preceding Pennsylvania class in its pre-Pearl form, mainly by rounding the bow and tweaking a few other odd bits here and there. I in my turn took his effort, modified it accordingly to represent the post-Pearl refitted Pennsylvania, and created my own custom textures so it could wear a proper USN wartime stock Measure 21 paint scheme.
While I am no longer making my OBJ models of either form of the Pennsylvania class available for public download, there are all kinds of them out there given the historical status of the lost USS Arizona, both retail and free, and in a wide variety of 3D model formats. Any of these can easily be found with a simple Internet search. As far as retail models go the ultra-high poly Arizona for World of Warships by Lesta Studios leads the pack, with the Battlestations series Pennsylvania being quite respectable for its day. There are also lots of other World War II based naval video games out there that include Arizona in some form, even if only as a static model. There are no less than four good low-poly models of Pennsylvania and Arizona for Microsoft's Flight Simulator series as well. The best for that of Pennsylvania right now in her post-Pearl refit form is currently stuart277's effort, although that's a Sim Outhouse exclusive as I write this (i.e. membership required). On the other hand, Chris Hering's retail quality version of Arizona at the time of the Pearl Harbor raid is widely available, and here's a link for it (use ModelConverterX to port it to OBJ):

ASIDE - Arizona was introduced to the World of Warships lineup by Lesta Studios in 2016 as a Tier VI premium battleship in the United States tech tree.
