Description
Father John Joseph Reid and Father Lawrence Turner are Catholic priest that fell in love with each other and married in Massachusetts. They now preside over the New Devine Mercy Catholic Communities. The opening statement of their website is listed below. In imitation of Jesus Christ, we welcome all people to worship and celebrate God's all-inclusive love with us. Whoever you are, where ever you are in your life, we thank you for choosing to be here with us today. Our Mission: To Extend God's Kingdom of Justice, Truth, Love and Peace. [link]
More than 1,000 people attended a rally at Fort Lauderdale City Hall protesting the passage of Amendment 2 in Florida and Proposition 8 in California, which discriminates against LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender/transsexual ) people in The United States of America.
The protests were part of the βJoin the Impactβ [link] campaign to have a synchronized reaction of outrage across the country because of the passage of laws in Arizona, California and Florida defining marriage as an institution between a man and a woman only.
Proposition 8 in California and Amendment 2 in Florida have become a symbol of the struggle for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights. It is also argued the laws will restrict rights to heterosexuals who are domestic partners and not married.

Catholic Church actually has no problems with homosexuals, though two PRIESTS marrying would get them removed from the priesthood, they wouldn't be excommunicated.

They were defrocked for marrying when they were priests, which is against the law of the Church.

I'm having mixed emotions. I am 150% supportive of LGBTQ rights. I myself have questioned and been involved with another female. However, I am Catholic, and choose to go to mass and altar serve and be involved with things at church. It upset me when my father got remarried and was no longer able to recieve the eucharist because he married outside of the church. This photo, however beautiful from one perspective, is highly offensive from the other. Catholic priests, as part of the Sacrament of Holy Orders, take an oath of celebacy that they uphold for the rest of their lives. Therefore, it is not right for these priests to have fallen in love, because they had been ordained with that oath, and should live by it, or be excommunicated. Yes, I do not agree with some of the stances the church takes, but the celibacy of our priests is not compromisable. If these men were not Catholic priests, I would be completely supportive of their actions.

I 'm Catholic and while I believe we really should accept (and I do) ALL people ....I just don't think that my clergy should marry ANYONE.
I am glad they moved into a new form? of the Catholic Community... maintaining their religious tradition without having to hide who they are.
...if my nephew eventually comes out I'll be sure to tell him about this. (gotta let things run their course ... so until he's ready).

I would love to read their full story. It sounds like they have been through a very unique and interesting experience considering their religious affiliation and their current church. I applaud what they are doing, it's really inspiring.

First off, let me say this- wonderful picture!
Now, this is what we need to see more of. Religious people acknowledging the fact that to be gay isn't a choice, but who you are. How they think you can be undone, and not be who you are anymore just because someone dunked you in a lake/pool/poured a glass of water on your head that was allegedly blessed by the grace of a god is both someone who needs to wake up and smell the roses and someone who is intolerant and hiding behind their belief in their holy book.
These types of things that people say, just break my heart. How they have to, oh, justify their belief in whether it is okay or not okay.
"As a REAL Christian I don't hate gays. But at the same time, I won't say that its okay. "
"epic fail."
"the Propositions against gay marriage wasn't against gay people, just their rights as people...silly you, get it right. None of this matters..all the debates and hatred over all of this is completely pointless. There's always going to be someone who stands against anything someone else feels or believes in. All the fighting to get people to believe what you believe in is just a waste..believe what you will believe, and leave it at that. Just be glad that thats what you believe in, and thats all that matters. If someone wants to disagree with you, fine...that's their right. But all the pandering to go one way or another has to stop."
Haha, gosh religion just gets worse with every passing day. Glad I never fell for that nonsense. Hmmm, I wonder how many children these two have had their filthy hands on? Funny stuff, funny freakin' stuff there."
"So there are other Christians FOR gay rights other than me??? 8'D That makes me... happy."
These are all from the comments above.
I don't think we should justify whether we approve or disapprove because we're Catholic, or Christian, or Atheist.
So, allow me to be the first to say that as a HUMAN BEING I find this image absolutely and utterly gorgeous.
